Urbana sweeps Graham, Indian Lake fall in four to Botkins; Monday volleyball roundup

Several area volleyball teams were in action Monday night, with Urbana earning a varsity victory while Indian Lake, Bellefontaine and Riverside also competed across multiple levels.

Urbana 3, Graham 0

The Urbana Hillclimbers defeated Graham in straight sets Monday night, winning 25-9, 25-9 and 27-25.

Urbana controlled the first two sets, capitalizing on Graham errors while playing a clean and consistent game.

The Hillclimbers also controlled much of the third set, but Graham refused to go away. Urbana led 24-20 before the Falcons won four straight points to force extra points.

Urbana ultimately held on to finish the sweep, taking the third set 27-25.

Lily Trenor led the Hillclimbers with 18 kills and an ace. Kaylee Wooten added four kills, while Payton Dyer finished with three kills and three aces while running the offense as Urbana’s primary setter.

Bella Moxley added three kills, while Maci Leamann and Janaya Scott each recorded two kills. Maley Pine contributed a pair of aces.

For Graham, Malynn Bacher led the Falcons with six kills, while Asyia Davis added five.

Botkins 3, Indian Lake 1

The Indian Lake varsity volleyball team hosted Botkins Monday evening and fell in four sets, 24-26, 25-22, 23-25 and 20-25.

Courtney Altstaetter led the Lakers with 16 kills and two blocks. Cami Bailey added 14 kills, one block and 16 digs while going 22-for-22 serving with an ace.

Mackenzie Miller finished with seven kills, one block, 18 digs and an ace. Alivia Kinney recorded five kills and four blocks, while Madison Davis added four kills and four blocks while going 11-for-11 serving.

Piper Warnecke contributed nine digs.

Addyson Roby led the Indian Lake offense with 44 assists. She also recorded 15 digs, four kills, one block and two aces.

JV – Botkins 2, Indian Lake 1

The Indian Lake JV team also battled Botkins before falling in three sets, 25-23, 20-25 and 21-25.

Claire Tidwell led the Lakers with eight kills and six digs. Hayleigh Penix added seven kills and two digs, while Audra Harford finished with five kills and four digs.

Ayla Brentlinger recorded nine digs, while Makayle Clary had five digs and eight receptions to target.

Addison Headings added two digs and two aces. Lux Kipker recorded 15 assists and four digs, while Layna Nessler finished with eight assists and five digs.

Bellefontaine 7th Grade 2, Graham 0

The Bellefontaine seventh-grade volleyball team defeated Graham in two sets Monday night, 25-20 and 25-7.

The victory improves the Chiefs to 10-1 on the season.

Devyn Hogan led Bellefontaine with nine kills, five digs, three aces, two assists and a 4-for-5 performance on serve receive.

Bexley Daring recorded nine digs, an assist and went 11-for-13 on serve receive. Emma Layman added seven assists, three digs and a kill while going 21-for-22 serving with six aces.

Eva Irick recorded two kills, while Miley McKirahan, Brooklyn Mosley and Harper Oakley each added a kill.

Lariah Valencia finished with three digs and went 6-for-7 on serve receive.

Bellefontaine 8th Grade 2, Graham 0

The Bellefontaine eighth-grade team also defeated Graham in straight sets, winning 27-25 and 25-15.

The Chiefs improve to 9-2 on the season and will host North Union Tuesday.

Skylar Phan led Bellefontaine with 18 digs, two assists and six aces. Arianna Rumer added 14 digs, four kills, six assists and five aces.

Evie Schmidt finished with six digs, four kills, five assists and two aces. Braelynn Neer recorded five kills, three aces and two digs, while Alivia Rogan had four digs, four kills and two blocks.

Marissa Oaks added five digs.

Covington 2, Riverside 0 – 7th Grade

Riverside hosted Covington Monday night, with the Pirates falling in two sets, 25-19 and 25-18.

Kylie Godshall led Riverside with five points and an ace. Destiny Lattimer added four points and two aces, while Stella Shultz finished with four points, an ace and a tip.

Brielle Carpenter recorded three points and two aces. Bella Castallante had a point, an ace and two kills, while April Tryloff added a point and an ace.

Covington 2, Riverside 0 – 8th Grade

Covington also earned a two-set victory in the eighth-grade match, winning 25-11 and 25-21.

Avery Wheeler led the Pirates with four points, an ace, two kills and a tip. Bella Shultz added four points and two aces, while Kinsley Crawford finished with three points and two aces.

Brylee Shephard recorded two points, an ace and a tip. Bella Beaty added a point and an ace.

Riverside will travel to Indian Lake Tuesday.
