Bellefontaine boys soccer picked up a big 2-0 Central Buckeye Conference victory over Benjamin Logan Tuesday night, giving the Chieftains their first win over the Raiders since 2019.
Anderson Konz provided all of the scoring for Bellefontaine, finding the back of the net twice.
Konz opened the scoring in the 29th minute, with Grady Graham recording the assist. Konz added his second goal early in the second half, with Ethan Turner picking up the assist.
The Chieftains’ midfield and defense played a major role in the victory, frustrating Benjamin Logan throughout the night and securing Bellefontaine’s first shutout of the season.
Bellefontaine head coach Steven Henry called it a significant win for his team and said the Chieftains played with intensity throughout the match.
“This is a big time win for these boys! They played with such intensity and passion. It was a lot of fun to watch.”
Henry also pointed to the performance from Konz, who broke through with both of Bellefontaine’s goals.
“For Anderson to break out a little has to feel good for him.”
The Chieftains’ forwards also created problems for the Raiders, while Henry credited the midfield and defense for helping control the match.
“Our forwards played a very dynamic game and it had a huge impact. But the unsung heroes are the mids and the defense.”
Henry said those players consistently made things difficult for Benjamin Logan and helped Bellefontaine secure the shutout against what he called a very good squad.
“They quietly, or not-so-quietly, frustrated the Raiders all night and secured our first shut out of the season against a very good squad.”
The victory moves Bellefontaine to 1-1-2 overall and 1-1 in CBC play.
Henry said the win carries extra significance because of the recent history between the two programs.
“It says a lot about their program when it means so much to us to win. We haven’t beaten them since 2019!”
Bellefontaine will now turn its attention to another tough opponent. The Chieftains return to action Wednesday, Sept. 9, when they host Tecumseh.
