Several area volleyball teams were in action Tuesday night, with Benjamin Logan earning a sweep over Urbana while Bellefontaine, Indian Lake and Riverside also took the court.
Benjamin Logan 3, Urbana 0
The Benjamin Logan Lady Raiders picked up a 3-0 victory over Urbana Tuesday night in a CBC crossover match, winning 25-18, 25-19 and 25-20.
Benjamin Logan established control early in the opening set, using a six-point scoring run to build a 9-3 lead. The Raiders continued to create separation behind strong serving and attacking, eventually taking a 24-14 advantage. Urbana answered with four straight points to make it 24-18, but Benjamin Logan closed out the set 25-18.
The second set was more competitive early, with the lead changing hands several times. The Hillclimbers briefly took a 2-1 lead, but the Raiders responded and began to pull away. Benjamin Logan led 16-11 before Urbana cut the deficit to two points at 16-14.
The Raiders answered with another run, taking a 19-14 lead and eventually moving ahead 24-18. A kill from Payton Dyer kept Urbana alive, but an attacking error gave Benjamin Logan the 25-19 set victory.
Benjamin Logan again took control early in the third set, building a 13-6 lead behind strong serving and pressure on Urbana’s serve receive. The Hillclimbers fought back, using a four-point run to cut the deficit to 13-10.
Urbana continued to battle and eventually pulled within 23-20, but Georgia Daniels delivered a big swing to put the Raiders at match point before Summer Cline finished the sweep with a final point.
Daniels led Benjamin Logan with 11 kills, while Cline added seven kills. Autumn Cline directed the offense with 20 assists.
Abby Vance provided a strong presence at the net with three kills and three blocks, while also recording three aces. Storm LeVan added two kills.
Defensively, Brielle Kline recorded a 2.00 passing rating, while Lydia Johnson posted a team-best 2.40 rating.
Varsity – Northwestern 3, Bellefontaine 1
The Bellefontaine Lady Chiefs opened Tuesday’s match with a first-set victory over Northwestern but dropped the next three, falling 3-1. Set scores were 25-23, 24-26, 17-25 and 23-25.
The Chiefs battled through a tight opening set before taking the lead in the match, but Northwestern answered by winning a second set that went beyond 25 points. The Warriors then carried that momentum into the third and fourth sets to complete the comeback.
Presley Vigansky led the Chiefs with 36 assists and added eight digs and an ace. Ava Layman finished with 12 kills and 15 digs while going 17-for-20 on serve receive and 11-for-12 serving.
Jillian Ullom recorded 24 digs, three assists and two aces while going 21-for-25 on serve receive. Arianna Rangel added 13 kills, eight digs and three aces.
Alayna Boyd contributed six kills and two digs, while Celine Blinn had nine digs and two aces. Lexey Brown finished with four kills, five digs and four aces, while Jazmin Nelson added three kills and two digs.
The varsity Chiefs fall to 2-3 on the season and will travel to Graham Thursday.
JV – Northwestern 2, Bellefontaine 0
The Bellefontaine JV Chiefs fell to Northwestern in two sets, 26-24 and 25-18.
The Chiefs battled closely in the opening set before Northwestern pulled out the 26-24 victory. The Warriors then used that momentum to take the second set 25-18.
Rosie Lightle led Bellefontaine with eight assists and nine digs while going 8-for-8 serving. Brookelyn Oaks added two assists, one ace and five digs and went 10-for-13 on serve receive.
Ellie Bosiljevac recorded three kills, eight digs and an ace while going 7-for-7 on serve receive. Gianna Davis added three kills, one ace and three digs.
Hailey Augustus finished with two kills and one dig, while Ellie Irick, Rylyn Hoskins-Rose and Lexi McKirahan each recorded one kill.
Alejandra Meregote added two digs and went 2-for-2 on serve receive, while Alexis Hogan contributed three assists, two digs and went 4-for-4 serving.
The JV Chiefs fall to 2-3 and will also travel to Graham Thursday. First serve is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
Varsity – London 3, Indian Lake 1
Indian Lake traveled to London Tuesday, with the varsity Lady Lakers falling in four sets, 18-25, 26-24, 19-25 and 13-25.
The Lakers battled back to take the second set 26-24 after London won the opener, but the host team responded by taking the final two sets.
Cami Bailey, Alivia Kinney and Courtney Altstaetter each finished with seven kills. Bailey added 10 digs, Kinney had an ace, and Altstaetter contributed a block and two digs.
Mackenzie Miller recorded five kills and 13 digs, while Addyson Roby led the Lakers with 26 assists, 10 digs, a block and an ace. Piper Warnecke added 12 digs.
The Indian Lake JV team also fell in two sets.
7th Grade – Riverside 2, Botkins 0
Riverside’s seventh-grade team earned a 2-0 victory over Botkins Tuesday, winning 25-21 and 25-20.
Bella Castallante led the Pirates with six points, one ace and a kill. Brielle Carpenter added four points and four aces, while Stella Shultz had four points and two aces.
Saber Jenkins contributed four points and an ace, while Scarlett Lentz finished with three points and two aces.
8th Grade – Botkins 2, Riverside 0
The Riverside eighth-grade Pirates fell to Botkins in two sets, 25-12 and 25-8.
Bella Schultz led Riverside with three points, while Bella Beaty and Ruth Morrison each added one point. Avery Wheeler contributed one point and a kill, while Brylee Shepherd also recorded a kill.
Riverside will travel to Bethel Thursday for a conference match.
