BL falls short to Shawnee; Friday night hoops roundup

Several area boys basketball teams were in action Friday night, delivering a mix of hard-fought losses, convincing wins, and strong individual performances as the season continues to take shape.

Benjamin Logan Fall Late at Shawnee; JV Picks Up Win

The Benjamin Logan Raiders traveled to Shawnee on Friday night and came up short, 47-35, in a physical contest decided late in the game.

Roman Maxwell led the Raiders with 8 points, 7 rebounds, and a block, while Maddox Vermillion added 7 points, 6 rebounds, and a steal. Clayton Jenkins finished with 5 points, 3 rebounds, and a steal, and Cayden Brown chipped in 5 points and 8 rebounds. Carter Fay scored 4 points with 2 rebounds and a steal, Peyton Vermillion had 4 points and 5 rebounds, and Christian Rogan contributed 2 points, 2 assists, and a block.

The JV Raiders earned a 49–45 win over Shawnee, led by Micah Gregg’s 12 points and 11 points from Owen Stratton.

Indian Lake Rolls Past Northwestern

Indian Lake picked up a commanding 74–48 win over Northwestern, with balanced scoring throughout the lineup.

Brodey Reisinger led all scorers with 21 points, followed by Tyler Tidwell with 14 and Avery Pequignot with 10. In all, eight Lakers found the scoring column in the victory.

In the JV matchup, Indian Lake defeated Northwestern 51–39, with Rush Hurley scoring 10 points.

The Lakers return to action Sunday against Arlington at the Columbus Convention Center.

West Liberty-Salem Dominates Triad

West Liberty-Salem’s varsity squad improved to 4–2 overall and 4–1 in the OHC with a decisive 62–25 win over Triad.

Brevin Louden led the Tigers with 16 points, while Troy Christison added 14 and Sutton Wilcoxon scored 10. Carson Poppe and Beckett Sullivan each finished with 7 points, and Brandel Sullivan and Sam Strapp added 4 points apiece.

The JVA team also earned a lopsided victory, defeating Triad 56–18 to improve to 5–1 overall. Josiah Johnson paced the scoring with 17 points, followed by Asher Cole with 12 and Casey Boyer with 9.

West Liberty-Salem is back on the court December 23rd, traveling to Bellefontaine for JVB, JVA, and varsity action.

Calvary Christian Battles Middletown Christian

Calvary Christian hosted Middletown Christian on Friday night, with both teams facing tough outcomes.

The JV Spartans dropped a close 37–34 decision, led by Caleb Gantz’s 13 points. Kole Gantz scored 8 points, and Seth Palmer added 6 in the narrow loss.

In the varsity game, Calvary fell 74–51 in a physical matchup. Braylon Dunson led the Spartans with 16 points and 3 rebounds, while Aiden Keller recorded 10 points, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds. Nehemiah Dillon finished with 9 points, and Evan Schmidt added 8 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 assists.

Calvary Christian will be back in action Saturday at Fairlawn.

Riverside Splits with Lehman Catholic

In varsity action, Lehman Catholic pulled away for an 82–37 win over Riverside. Brody Orsborne led Riverside with 8 points, while Colton Hurley finished with 7 points and Gabe Steineman contributed 6.

Riverside’s JV squad earned a solid 39–31 win over Lehman Catholic, powered by a team-high 15 points from David Gross. Justin Mazariegos and Gabe Steineman each added 7 points in the victory.
