The Bellefontaine Chieftains turned in a dominant all-around performance over the weekend, winning both the boys and girls team championships at the Circleville Relays behind depth across nearly every event.
Boys Recap
Bellefontaine’s boys captured multiple relay titles and scored consistently in both track and field events to secure the team win.
The Chieftains took first in the 6400 relay with Jack Wilson, Brenden Murray, Landon Gerwels, and Hayden Maus (19:40.3). They followed that with another win in the 3200 relay, as Oliver Grandstaff, Wilson, Gerwels, and Maus posted a time of 9:12.4.
In sprint relays, Bellefontaine won the 800 relay (Caleb Sechrest, Dillon Jones, Terrance Hayes, Kaiden Foulk) in 1:34.8 and the sprint medley relay (Jones, Hayes, Sechrest, Foulk) in 1:38.3. The Chieftains also claimed the shuttle hurdles relay title with Kaiden Foulk, Terrance Hayes, Caleb Sechrest, and Kyrus Cobb finishing in 1:08.8.
In the field, Bellefontaine added another victory in the high jump relay with Hayes and Cobb clearing a combined 11-4.
The Chieftains also posted several strong finishes. They placed second in the 1600 relay (Sechrest, Jones, Maus, Kaiden Foulk) in 3:39.4 and second in the lap medley relay (Jake Moreland, Gerwels, Grandstaff, Maus) in 11:50.7. The triple jump relay team of Kyson Collier and Maddox Marlen finished second with a mark of 70-1¼.
Additional scoring came from a fifth-place finish in the 400 relay (Maddox Marlen, Cam Rutan, Kyson Collier, Kyrus Cobb) in 48.7, a fifth-place finish in the shot put relay (Marek Frazier, Braelin Saxton) at 72-11, a sixth-place finish in the discus relay (Oliver Grandstaff, Braelin Saxton) at 213-1, and a sixth-place finish in the long jump relay (Maddox Marlen) at 19-¼.
Girls Recap
The Bellefontaine girls matched the boys with a dominant performance of their own, winning multiple relays and scoring across the board to secure the team title.
The Chieftains won the 3200 relay (Kaileigh Flora, Camila Cely Hernandez, Hannah Wilson, Grace Brown) in 10:57.7 and the 1600 relay (Layla Davis, Jillian Ullom, Flora, Brown) in 4:32.8. They added another victory in the 800 relay (Sloan Stolly, Jillian Ullom, Layla Davis, Callie Shumaker) in 1:53.4.
Bellefontaine continued its success with a win in the sprint medley relay (Stolly, Jillian Kuba, Davis, Shumaker) in 1:57.3 and the shuttle hurdles relay (Stolly, Maddie Barrett, Ullom, Shumaker) in 1:14.1.
In the field events, the Chieftains took first in the shot put relay with Kelsie Snapp and Emma Merrin (60-3½).
They also added several strong finishes. The 6400 relay team of Leila Hammond, Cece Reier, Camila Cely Hernandez, and Grace Brown placed second in 25:12.2. The triple jump relay (Gia Kuba, Ava Layman) finished second at 56-11, and the discus relay (Kelsie Snapp, Annelyn Clem) also placed second with a throw of 187-7.
Bellefontaine placed third in the 400 relay (Sloan Stolly, Layla Davis, Gia Kuba, Ava Layman), third in the distance medley relay (Leila Hammond, Hannah Wilson, Ximena Marquez Diaz, Cece Reier) in 15:28.7, third in the long jump relay (Ava Layman, Gus Kuba) at 29-¼, and third in the pole vault relay with Kaileigh Flora clearing 7-6.
Additional points came from a fifth-place finish in the high jump relay (Ava Layman, Grace Brown) at 8-6.
With wins across multiple relays and consistent scoring in nearly every event, Bellefontaine showcased its depth and talent in a sweep of the Circleville Relays team titles.
