Bellefontaine’s Gracie Hood is off to a strong start at the 2026 Junior Gold Championships in Minneapolis, Minnesota, putting herself in contention to advance after the opening day of qualifying.
Competing on Squad 36, Hood bowled the first of four qualifying blocks Monday evening at Lucky Strike Eden Prairie, rolling games of 169, 214, 211, and 213. Her 807 series produced a 201.75 average game, placing her 8th overall among 363 competitors in the 18U girls’ division.
After the opening four games, Hood sits 113 pins behind the tournament leader and is currently the highest-ranked bowler from Ohio.
The Junior Gold Championships feature some of the nation’s top youth bowlers, with competitors bowling 16 qualifying games over four days. At the conclusion of qualifying, only the top 52 bowlers will advance to the next stage of the tournament.
Hood has three qualifying blocks remaining as she looks to maintain her position inside the cut line.
