Hillclimbers, Indians earn wins in varsity bowling action

Area bowling teams were in action Thursday night with multiple varsity matchups across both the boys and girls divisions. Urbana and Mechanicsburg each turned in strong performances, combining consistent regular-game scoring with productive Baker sets to come away with victories over Indian Lake and West Liberty-Salem.

VARSITY BOYS — Urbana 2223, Indian Lake 2150

Urbana edged Indian Lake in a closely contested boys bowling match, using steady regular-game production and a strong Baker set to pull out the win.

Michael “Mike” Benefiel led the Hillclimbers with a 366 series, rolling games of 186 and 180. Levi Daniels followed with a 362 series, highlighted by a 215 game. Urbana totaled 1,563 pins in regular games before adding 660 pins in Baker play to secure the victory.

VARSITY GIRLS — Urbana 2578, Indian Lake 2444

Urbana’s girls put together a balanced effort across the lineup and followed it up with a dominant Baker set to defeat Indian Lake.

Emily Fisher paced Urbana with an outstanding 429 series, rolling 214 and 215. Mallory Stokes added a 385 series, while Audrie Williams and Brianna Campbell both finished above 350. Urbana posted 1,822 pins in regular games and sealed the win with a strong 756 Baker series.

Indian Lake was led by Kacie Craft’s 392 series and solid scoring throughout the lineup, but the Lakers were unable to match Urbana’s Baker output.

VARSITY BOYS — Mechanicsburg 2706, West Liberty-Salem 2387

Mechanicsburg delivered a dominant performance, powered by high individual series and an explosive Baker set.

Jeffrey Bryant led all bowlers with a 469 series, including a 265 game. Jonathan Wittman added a 407 series, while three other Indians bowlers finished above 330. Mechanicsburg totaled 1,881 pins in regular games and closed with an impressive 825 Baker series.

West Liberty-Salem was led by Zander Gluckle’s 381 series, but the Tigers could not keep pace with Mechanicsburg’s depth and Baker scoring.

Mechanicsburg’s girls used big games at the top of the lineup and steady Baker scoring to earn a convincing win over West Liberty-Salem.

Briana Popovich rolled a 416 series, while Mckenzi Picklesimer added a 411 series. Haley Alty finished with 394, and Ashton Waller posted a 247 single-game score. Mechanicsburg compiled 1,983 pins in regular games and followed with 687 pins in Baker play.

West Liberty-Salem was led by Sadie Paul’s 374 series, but Mechanicsburg’s overall scoring depth proved too much.

Greeneview picked up a win over Triad in boys bowling action Thursday night at Beaver-Vu, using strong individual performances to build the edge.

Mason Malone led all bowlers with a 258 two-game series for Triad, while Hayden Sheppeard followed with a 246 series and posted the high individual game on the boys side with a 141. Caden Organ added a 233 series for Triad.

Greeneview’s depth proved key, as multiple bowlers contributed consistent scoring to finish with a team total of 1,618 pins.

Isabella Russell delivered the top performance of the night, rolling a 286 two-game series for Triad and posting the high individual game for the girls with a 158. Ady Feasel also turned in a strong 282 series, while Natalie Burton added 176.

Greeneview maintained steady scoring across the lineup to finish with a narrow team victory.
