The Bellefontaine boys soccer team rallied from an early deficit to beat River Valley 6-3 Saturday, while Calvary Christian’s girls soccer team fell to Coldwater 2-1.
Bellefontaine 6, River Valley 3 (boys)
The Bellefontaine boys soccer team rallied from an early deficit Saturday to defeat River Valley 6-3.
River Valley scored first before the Chieftains answered with three goals in the final six minutes of the first half.
Anderson Konz scored twice, with assists from Grady Graham and Ethan Turner. Graham also converted a penalty kick to give Bellefontaine a 3-1 halftime lead.
Turner added a goal early in the second half, while River Valley scored twice to cut the lead to 4-3.
Graham converted another penalty kick before Konz completed his hat trick to close out the 6-3 victory.
Head coach Steve Henry called it a wild game.
“What a crazy game! We took three PKs, there was a straight red card, and nine goals were scored. And we came from behind again to win the game. This caps off this three-game series that we needed to win and we did. I’m very proud of them and the way that they have competed.”
Henry also credited Konz and Turner for their work creating chances throughout the match.
“This game was all about Ethan Turner and Anderson Konz creating chances in the box. Whether they were hitting shots or getting fouled, they had a hand in about everyone of our goals.”
Bellefontaine improves to 4-3-2 overall and 3-2 in Central Buckeye Conference play.
The Chieftains will host Kenton Ridge Monday at 7 p.m.
“Now we get to really test ourselves with a very good KR team coming to the Cue on Monday. We have some momentum, now we need to see if we have the grit and focus to win again!”
Coldwater 2, Calvary Christian 1 (girls)
The Calvary Christian girls soccer team came up short against Coldwater Saturday, falling 2-1.
Coldwater scored twice in the first half. Calvary goalkeeper Lydia Davie also made a key save on a Coldwater penalty kick opportunity early in the second half.
The Spartans answered 13 minutes into the second half when Emily Cronkleton connected with Blythe Lowe on a deep cross from the right side. Lowe headed the ball into the net for her first goal of the season.
Annagail Lambert and Makarios Kariuki each recorded shots on goal while helping lead the Spartans at midfield.
Reagan Roell, Scout Andre, Sarah King and Caroline Moore anchored the Calvary defense.
Calvary Christian will continue its season Monday in Xenia against Legacy Christian.
Miami East 2, West Liberty-Salem 0 (boys varsity)
The West Liberty-Salem boys soccer teams traveled to Miami East Saturday for a varsity and JV doubleheader.
The WLS varsity fell to Miami East 2-0.
Tucker Searles made eight saves in goal for the Tigers.
Miami East 3, West Liberty-Salem 0 (boys JV)
The West Liberty-Salem JV team also suffered a loss, falling to Miami East 3-0.
Drew Piacentino made five saves in goal for the Tigers.
Both WLS teams will be back in action this week.
The varsity will host Graham Monday at 5:30 p.m., while the JV will travel to Graham Tuesday for a 5:30 p.m. match.
