Indian Lake 13, Riverside 2

Indian Lake used a big second inning and steady offensive production to roll past Riverside 13-2, improving to 2-1 on the season while the Pirates fall to 3-4.

Riverside struck first in the opening inning when Keira Manahan launched a solo home run, but Indian Lake quickly responded in the second. Izzi Mackesy tied the game with an RBI double before Bre Wisener cleared the bases with a three-run triple. Wisener later scored on an error to cap a five-run inning and give the Lakers a 5-1 lead.

The Lakers kept adding on, with Annie Rapp driving in two runs on a double in the third. In the fourth, Kiylee Haude doubled and Kyler Carruthers followed with a two-run home run to extend the lead to 9-1.

Riverside’s only other run came on a solo homer from Chloe Purtee in the fourth. Indian Lake added insurance runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh to put the game out of reach.

Rapp led the offense, going 3-for-4, while Wisener drove in three runs and struck out 10 over 5.2 strong innings in the circle.

Indian Lake will face Springfield Shawnee on Monday, while Riverside returns to action Saturday against Triad.

West Liberty-Salem 6, Graham 5

West Liberty-Salem rallied late in a thrilling finish, scoring four runs in the bottom of the seventh to walk off Graham 6-5 after trailing by three entering the final inning.

Both teams were held scoreless through the first four innings as Graham’s Abby Chamberlain and WL-S’s Kiersten Stoll traded strong performances in the circle. Graham broke through in the fifth when Mariah Sizemore singled and later scored on an RBI double from Lexi Baker. The Tigers answered in the bottom half, using small ball to tie the game at one on a sacrifice fly from Taylor Cook.

WL-S took a 2-1 lead in the sixth on an RBI groundout from Kaylee Blair, but Graham surged ahead in the seventh. A pair of singles and a double tied the game before Malynn Bacher blasted a two-run home run to center. The Falcons added another run on a bases-loaded single to take a 5-2 lead.

Down to their final out, the Tigers caught fire with five straight singles. Olivia Reichardt delivered a clutch two-RBI hit to cut the lead to a single run, then Ashlyn Yeater followed with a walk-off single to center, scoring two runs to complete the comeback.

Yeater finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs, while Reichardt drove in two runs and scored twice. Baker led Graham, going 3-for-4 with two RBIs, while several Falcons recorded multi-hit games.

West Liberty-Salem and Graham are now both 2-3 on the season. The Tigers travel to Newton on Saturday, while the Falcons face Bellefontaine on Friday.

Springfield 4, Mechanicsburg 3

Mechanicsburg dropped a close contest on the road as Springfield walked it off for a 4-3 victory, keeping the Lady Indians winless at 0-4.

Aubrie Retterer was sharp early, retiring the first six batters she faced. Mechanicsburg took the lead in the third inning on a solo home run from Avery McDowell, but Springfield answered with a run off a defensive error.

Springfield moved ahead 2-1 in the fifth before the Indians responded in the sixth. Back-to-back one-out singles from Bella Batkiewicz and Chuckie Dale brought home two runs to give Mechanicsburg a 3-2 lead.

The Wildcats tied the game in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly, then loaded the bases in the seventh and drew a walk to bring in the winning run.

Retterer also led Mechanicsburg offensively, going 2-for-3. The Lady Indians will look to rebound Monday against Fairbanks.
