Local athletes shine at OHSAA State Track and Field Championships

Area athletes closed out the 2026 season with an impressive showing at the OHSAA State Track and Field Championships June 4-7 at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus, collecting numerous All-Ohio honors, podium finishes, school records, and personal-best performances.

OHSAA Division III State Championships

Bellefontaine Chieftains

Girls

Callie Shumaker qualified for the finals in both hurdle events, finishing ninth in the 100-meter hurdles and ninth in the 300-meter hurdles.

Kelsie Snapp earned All-Ohio honors with a seventh-place finish in the shot put and later placed 17th in the discus.

Grace Brown wrapped up her season with a 12th-place finish in the 3200-meter run.

Benjamin Logan Raiders

Boys

Carter Daniels reached the podium in the pole vault, clearing 15-2 to finish third and earn All-Ohio honors.

Girls

Abby Vance secured a fourth-place finish in the long jump to earn All-Ohio recognition after also competing in the 200-meter dash preliminaries.

Kyla Godwin added a 14th-place finish in the discus.

Indian Lake Lakers

Boys

Christopher Timms earned All-Ohio honors with an eighth-place finish in the shot put.

Gavin Henry competed in the 110-meter hurdles, placing 15th overall.

Girls

Addison Beck represented the Lakers in the high jump.

Urbana Hillclimbers

Vincent Lightle, Urbana’s lone state qualifier, capped his season with a 10th-place finish in the 3200-meter run.

OHSAA Division IV State Championships

West Liberty-Salem Tigers

Boys

West Liberty-Salem’s 4×800 relay team of Zeke Longshore, Brayan Gullett, Caleb Larson, and Asher Cole claimed state runner-up honors while setting a new school record with a time of 7:54.26.

Sam Kidd finished fifth in the 200-meter dash, while Taryn Bradley placed seventh in the 110-meter hurdles.

The Tigers also earned All-Ohio honors in the 4×100 relay and 4×400 relay, while the 4×200 relay missed the podium by just one-hundredth of a second.

Larson, Cole, and Gullett each contributed strong performances in the distance events throughout the weekend.

Girls

Chloe Griffith earned a third-place finish in the 100-meter dash and teamed with Tori Douthwaite, Lea Brickerson, and Gwen McCullough to place third in the 4×100 relay.

The relay’s time of 48.80 was just two-hundredths of a second shy of the school record.

Douthwaite also collected All-Ohio honors in the pole vault, while Ava Poppe competed in the shot put.

OHSAA Division V State Championships

Mechanicsburg Indians

Boys

Beckett Negley turned in one of the meet’s top distance performances, finishing as Division V state runner-up in both the 3200-meter run and 1600-meter run.

His 4:16.73 effort in the 1600 established a new Mechanicsburg school record while earning his second All-Ohio honor of the weekend.

Austin Haynes competed in both hurdle events, while Mark Clyburn and Oliver Smith represented the Indians in field events.

Girls

The 4×800 relay team of Isabelle Rodgers, Evelyn Shultz, Ayla Picklesimon, and Clair Rodgers earned All-Ohio honors with an eighth-place finish.

Clair Rodgers added another standout performance in the 800-meter run, placing fourth with a school-record time of 2:16.10.

Isabelle Rodgers also qualified for the state final and finished 14th overall.

Calvary Christian Spartans

Boys

John Gaertner earned All-Ohio honors with a seventh-place finish in the 800-meter run, posting a personal-best time of 1:57.24.

The Spartans also competed in the 4×800 relay.

Triad Cardinals

Girls

Avery Eaton represented Triad in the 100-meter hurdles at the state meet.

From state runner-up finishes and school records to All-Ohio honors and podium appearances, local athletes once again showcased the strength of area track and field programs on Ohio’s biggest stage.
