The Logan County Braves returned home with an impressive collection of medals and top finishes after competing in the Special Olympics Ohio State Summer Games held this past weekend in Columbus.
A total of 21 athletes represented Logan County, including 13 bowlers and eight track and field competitors. Bowling events were held at Columbus Square Bowling Palace, while track and field competitions took place at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium and the Ohio State University lacrosse field, which hosted the softball throw events.
The Braves bowling team earned several podium finishes. Gold medals were won by Tammy Horne, Stacy Wren and Tyler Tracey. Howard White and Jacob Hawk each captured silver medals, while Michelle Horne earned a bronze medal.
Additional bowling results included Jamie Young (5th place), Holly Morris (5th), Katie Hudkins (4th), Dennis Ross (4th), Adam Abshire (4th), Max Blair (6th) and Morgan Huffer (5th).
Track and field athletes also delivered strong performances throughout the weekend. Katie Peterson claimed first place in the softball throw and added a sixth-place finish in the 100-meter walk. Bob Offenbecher won the 100-meter walk and finished third in the softball throw.
Sara Stierhoff earned second-place finishes in both the mini javelin and 100-meter walk, while Tim Coppler placed second in the mini javelin and third in the 200-meter walk.
Viv Stover finished fifth in the 100-meter run and third in the softball throw. Daniel Struble placed fourth in the 100-meter walk and third in the softball throw, while Azzy Clinger recorded fourth-place finishes in both the 100-meter walk and softball throw.
Jack Costin rounded out the Logan County results with a seventh-place finish in the shot put and fourth place in the 200-meter run.
The performances highlighted the dedication and determination of the Logan County Braves athletes, who represented their community well at one of the largest Special Olympics events in Ohio.
