Bellefontaine native and three-time Olympian Louie Vito took the mound at Progressive Field on Saturday, August 1, 2026, to throw out the ceremonial first pitch before the Cleveland Guardians game.
Vito’s special moment came in front of 30,392 fans at the corner of Carnegie and Ontario, with friends and family in the crowd cheering him on.
Following the first pitch, Vito reflected on the memorable moment.
A professional snowboarder with a career spanning more than two decades, Vito has represented the United States and Italy at three Winter Olympics — the 2010 Games in Vancouver, the 2022 Games in Beijing, and the 2026 Games in Milano-Cortina.
Vito’s accomplishments include six X Games medals, four U.S. Overall Grand Prix Championships, two Winter Dew Tour Cup Championships, and the 2009 FIS World Cup Halfpipe Championship.
Earlier this summer, Vito was inducted into the Stratton Mountain School Hall of Fame for his achievements in snowboarding and his contributions to the sport.
Beyond competition, Vito has helped grow snowboarding through appearances on ABC’s “Dancing with the Stars” and his annual Louie Vito Rail Jam, which supports local charities and community projects.
From Bellefontaine to the world stage, Vito continues to represent his hometown with pride.
