Urbana 18, Bellefontaine 10
A huge offensive showing from both teams was highlighted by Bailee Packer’s monster eight-RBI performance as Urbana defeated rival Bellefontaine 18-10. The two teams combined for 30 hits and 28 runs.
Bellefontaine struck first in the opening inning when Joy Fogan continued her record-breaking season with a two-run homer to left, her eighth of the year.
Urbana answered immediately in the bottom half. Chloe Easterday and Addie Fox opened with back-to-back singles before Packer launched a three-run homer to center for a 3-2 lead.
The Lady Hillclimbers added two more in the second on a Morgan Boyd two-run double, then blew the game open in the third with eight two-out runs. Packer highlighted the inning with a grand slam to center, while Maley Pine, Morgan Hoffman, and Isla Wooten added consecutive extra-base hits as Urbana built a 13-2 lead.
Bellefontaine fought back with five runs in the fourth, using two bases-loaded walks, a two-RBI single from Brilee Joseph, and an RBI groundout from Alayna Boyd to cut it to 13-7.
Urbana responded again in the bottom half with RBI doubles from Fox and Packer, plus another RBI double from Hoffman to push the lead back to 16-7.
The Chiefs added two more in the sixth on RBI singles from Joseph and Boyd, while Urbana matched with two runs of its own. Bellefontaine scored once more in the seventh, but the Lady Hillclimbers closed out the 18-10 win.
Packer finished 4-for-4 with four runs scored and eight RBIs, including two home runs and a grand slam. Fox, Boyd, and Hoffman each collected three hits.
For Bellefontaine, Fogan went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, while Addison Wical also had three hits. Joseph added two hits and three RBIs.
Urbana improves to 13-6 and will host Benjamin Logan on Friday, while Bellefontaine falls to 3-15 and will host Indian Lake.
Triad 10, Greenon 9
Triad held off Greenon in a back-and-forth thriller, earning a 10-9 victory.
The Lady Cardinals started fast with three runs in the first. Savannah Thomas laid down a bunt single that turned into two runs thanks to aggressive baserunning, while Gracie Goehring later scored on a passed ball.
Greenon answered with a run in the second, but Triad added another in the third on Emma Enochs’ sacrifice fly for a 4-1 lead.
The Lady Knights chipped away, using a two-run homer in the third and a game-tying RBI double in the fourth to even things at 4-4.
Greenon briefly took the lead in the fifth, but Triad answered in the sixth. An error allowed Isabella Russell to score, and Haillei Jenkins stole home for the go-ahead run before Greenon tied it again in the bottom half.
The Cardinals finally created separation in the seventh with four runs. Goehring drew a bases-loaded walk, Savannah Thomas scored on a fielder’s choice sequence, and Kaitlynn Herron delivered a two-RBI double to center for a 10-6 lead.
Greenon nearly rallied again in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three and loading the bases, but Triad escaped to preserve the win.
Thomas had two hits and was one of three Cardinals with two RBIs, joined by Goehring and Herron.
Triad improves to 4-14 and is set to face Catholic Central on Monday.
Catholic Central 12, Riverside 11
Riverside came up just short in a wild back-and-forth battle, falling to Catholic Central 12-11.
The Irish scored three two-out runs in the first on a two-RBI double and passed ball.
Riverside answered with two runs in the bottom half as Emilee Robinson scored on a wild pitch and Emma Pope added an RBI groundout.
Catholic Central pushed the lead to 5-2 in the second after a Riverside error plated two.
The Lady Pirates surged ahead with a five-run third. Chloe Purtee drove in a run, Pope added another RBI groundout, Ellie Zwiebel tied it with an RBI single, and Karly Gilman gave Riverside a 7-5 lead with a two-RBI double.
Riverside added one more in the fourth on Pope’s sacrifice fly and another in the sixth on a wild pitch to lead 9-7.
Catholic Central saved its biggest rally for the seventh, exploding for five runs to reclaim a 12-9 advantage.
Riverside made one final push in the bottom half. Kara Klinger singled home a run, and Robinson doubled in another to cut the deficit to one, but the tying run was left stranded at second.
Pope led Riverside with three RBIs despite not recording a hit. Gilman added two hits and two RBIs, while Purtee scored three times.
Riverside falls to 9-12 and will host Lehman Catholic on Friday.
