The first local high school golf results of the 2026 fall season are officially in the books, and it was a successful opening day for Mechanicsburg. The Indians earned victories in boys varsity, boys junior varsity, and girls competition Thursday, kicking off the new season with a clean sweep.
Boys Golf
Mechanicsburg’s boys team traveled to Urbana Country Club for an 18-hole season opener against Northwestern and turned in a balanced performance to earn a 342-377 victory.
Senior Mason Bandy led the Indians from the top of the lineup, firing a 79 to claim medalist honors. Bandy’s round was the only score below 80 in the match and gave Mechanicsburg an early advantage it never surrendered.
The Indians’ depth was equally important in securing the win. Ryder Buxton added an 85, while Maxwell Popovich finished with an 87, giving Mechanicsburg three golfers under 90. Elliott Moore rounded out the team scoring with a 91, as the Indians placed four golfers at 91 or better.
Also competing for Mechanicsburg were MJ Blose, who shot a 96, and Doug Violet, who carded a 117.
Mechanicsburg’s junior varsity squad also picked up an impressive victory, defeating Northwestern 399-464.
The JV lineup featured balanced scoring throughout the afternoon. Hank Huffman paced the Indians with a 98, followed closely by Owen Lawhorn (99) and Bodee DeLong (100). Drew Lawhorn completed the scoring with a 102, while Caden Canfield (103) and Liam O’Laughlin (114) also competed.
Girls Golf
The Mechanicsburg girls team matched the boys’ success, opening the fall campaign with a 228-254 win over Graham in a 9-hole match.
The Indians were led by Blake Rausch, who earned medalist honors after shooting a 47, the lowest score of the match. Rausch’s performance helped set the tone as Mechanicsburg built a comfortable lead over the Falcons.
Mechanicsburg received consistent scoring behind its medalist effort from Arielle Hysel and Reagan Kile, who each posted rounds of 54. The balanced team effort allowed the Indians to pull away and begin the season with a convincing 26-stroke victory.
Graham was led by Bayla Moffitt, who finished with a 55 to pace the Falcons.
With all three teams earning victories on opening day, Mechanicsburg couldn’t have asked for a better start to the 2026 season. The Indians showed strong scoring depth across both the boys and girls programs, providing plenty of momentum as they head into the early weeks of the fall schedule.
