The local boys golf season continued Monday as Urbana Country Club hosted the Columbus Academy Shootout, an 18-hole invitational featuring 12 teams and 74 golfers.
Both Urbana and Mechanicsburg competed in the hometown event, with the Indians finishing 11th and the Hillclimbers placing 12th.
Mechanicsburg posted a team score of 378, while Urbana finished with a score of 483. The tournament was interrupted by a couple of lightning-related rain delays, but the field was able to complete the event.
Mechanicsburg
The Indians finished 11th out of 12 teams with a team score of 378.
MJ Blose led Mechanicsburg with an 87, finishing 34th overall among the 74 golfers.
Senior Maxwell Popovich followed with a 95, placing 55th, while junior Ryder Buxton shot a 96 and finished 58th.
Sophomore Elliott Moore carded a 100 to finish 61st and round out the team scoring.
Douglas Violet also competed for the Indians, finishing with a 122 and placing 68th overall.
Sophomore Owen Lawhorn shot a 102 and finished 65th.
Urbana
The Hillclimbers finished 12th out of 12 teams with a team score of 483.
Freshman Brant Markin led Urbana with a 104, finishing 66th overall.
Sophomore Lane Varney followed with a 115 and placed 67th.
Sophomores Kelton McClain and Lyle Rice each shot 132, finishing tied for 69th.
Freshman Jacob Stanforth rounded out the Urbana lineup with a 137, placing 71st overall.
The Columbus Academy Shootout provided both local teams with another opportunity to compete against a larger field and gain valuable tournament experience early in the season.
Despite the weather delays, all 12 teams and 74 golfers were able to persevere and complete the 18-hole event at Urbana Country Club.
