Mechanicsburg piled up 21 runs on 19 hits while also taking advantage of 10 Liberty Christian errors, six wild pitches, a hit batter, and four walks. The Indians wasted no time, scoring seven runs in the opening inning — all with two outs. The Indians kept the pressure on from there, adding one run in the second and four more in the third. McDowell led the offense with three hits and three RBIs. Bella Batkiewicz added two hits and three RBIs, including the inside-the-park homer, while McGhee went 4-for-5 with two RBIs. Poland also drove in a pair.
Mechanicsburg improves to 6-13 and advances to the Division VI Central 2 District Semifinals, where the Lady Indians will face OHC conference foe No. 2 West Jefferson.
Regular Season
Indian Lake 12, Graham 1 (5 innings)
Indian Lake wrapped up the regular season with another dominant performance, defeating Graham 12-1 in five innings to build momentum heading into tournament play.
Makayle Clary was excellent in the circle, tossing four innings while allowing just one run on five hits. The lone Graham run came in the fourth after Brinlee Middleton reached on an error and later scored on an Addie Bashore fielder’s choice. Even with some defensive miscues behind her, Clary stranded six runners across her outing. Bre Wisener pitched the fifth, allowing only a leadoff double before retiring the next three hitters.
At the plate, the Lakers struck early. MacKenzie Miller and Wisener opened the first with singles, and Kyler Carruthers brought home the first run with a sacrifice fly before Izzi Mackesy added an RBI groundout for a 2-0 lead.
Indian Lake broke things open in the second. After Ayla Brentlinger reached on an error, Wisener drove her in with an infield single before Carruthers crushed a three-run homer to left, stretching the lead to 6-0. Annie Rapp followed with a solo homer in the third.
The Lakers kept pouring it on in the fourth. Back-to-back doubles from Miller and Wisener plated another run, then Carruthers launched her second homer of the day — another two-run shot — to push the lead to 10-1. RBI singles from Clary and Brentlinger later in the inning enforced the run rule.
Carruthers had a monster day, going 2-for-2 with two home runs, a sacrifice fly, and six RBIs. Miller, Wisener, and Rapp each finished with three hits.
Indian Lake improves to 10-15 and heads into Thursday’s district quarterfinal matchup against Benjamin Logan with momentum. Graham finishes its season at 5-19 after also falling in tournament play earlier in the week.
