Raider boys earn runner-up at Bearcat Relays; Spartans and Pirates shine at Triad Invitational

Local track and field teams battled through wet and rainy conditions Friday night, turning in a full slate of performances across the Triad Invitational and the Spencerville Bearcat Relays, highlighted by a runner-up team finish from the Benjamin Logan Raiders and strong individual and relay efforts from the Calvary Christian Spartans and Riverside Pirates.

Spencerville Bearcat Relays (Friday)

Benjamin Logan Boys – 2nd Place (91 points)

The Benjamin Logan Raiders put together a complete team effort to finish second overall at the 48th Annual Spencerville Bearcat Relays, totaling 91 points behind Columbus Grove (120). Fort Loramie (60), New Bremen (47), Spencerville (38.5), Ada (38), and Delphos St. Johns (24) rounded out the field.

Despite rainy conditions, the Raiders excelled across relays and field events, capturing two first-place finishes.

The high jump relay team of Roman Maxwell (5-08), Joe Meeker (5-06), Owen Stratton (5-06), and Kyle Kibler (5-02) combined for 16 feet, 8 inches to take first place. On the track, the 4×200 relay team of Wyatt Predmore, Cadin Tucker, Hayden Hites, and Alex Hassel won in 1:37.44.

Benjamin Logan added a strong group of runner-up finishes. In the shot put, Gus Bibart (40-11.5), Daniel Kohler (38-01.5), Nate Mitchell (36-4.5), and Asher Boysel (34-10) combined for 115 feet, 4.5 inches. The discus team of Bibart (118-03), Mitchell (101-08), Boysel (84-11), and Brody Leonard (81-04) totaled 304 feet, 10 inches for another second-place finish.

On the track, the Raiders placed second in the 110-meter shuttle hurdles (Roman Maxwell, Joe Meeker, Davis Matthews, Cooper Buck – 1:09.67), 4×100 relay (Predmore, Hassel, Hites, Tucker – 45.75), 4×800 relay (Gavin Jordan, Luke Vesley, Brock Henry, Tyler Shoopman – 9:15.55), and the 800 sprint medley (Davis Matthews, Cadin Tucker, Wyatt Predmore, Cooper Buck – 1:42.09).

Third-place finishes came from the long jump team—Maxwell (18-0), Hassel (17-09.5), Stratton (17-03.5), and Ian Henault (17-00.5)—with a combined distance of 53 feet, 1 inch. The throwers 4×100 relay (Asher Boysel, Daniel Kohler, Nate Mitchell, Gus Bibart) placed third in 53.45, while the mixed 4×400 relay team of Aleha France, Abbey Vance, Davis Matthews, and Cooper Buck also finished third in 4:03.97.

The Raiders added fourth-place finishes in the 4×1600 relay (Greyson Butler 5:07, Luke Vesley 5:11, Brock Henry 5:11, Maxwell Troth 5:23 – 20:52 total) and the distance medley relay (Tyler Shoopman, Owen Stratton, Gavin Jordan, Greyson Butler – 12:23.92).

The 4×400 relay team of Jonathan Beikman, Gabe Predmore, Ethan Tyan, and Cole Somerlot placed sixth in 4:05 to round out the scoring.

Benjamin Logan will return to action Monday at Bethel High School.

Triad Invitational (Friday)

Calvary Christian Spartans

The Calvary Christian Spartans turned in a number of strong efforts, highlighted by a record-breaking distance performance and multiple relay finishes.

Adly Knox led the way with a second-place finish in the 3200 meters, breaking the school record with a time of 10:37. Knox also helped power the 4×800 relay team—alongside John Gaertner, Kaden Simpson, and Beniah Soma—to a runner-up finish in 8:40.

The Spartans added two fourth-place finishes, including Avery McCarty in the 300-meter hurdles (58.21) and the 4×400 relay team of Adly Knox, Brett Gildow, Aydan Knox, and John Gaertner (3:45).

Additional results included:

  • 5th Place: John Gaertner in the 1600 meters (4:42)
  • 8th Place: Brett Gildow (400 – 55.33), Beniah Soma (800 – 2:19), Elias Peterson (long jump)
  • 9th Place: Avery McCarty (100 hurdles – 20.38), Elias Peterson (200 – 24.70), and the 4×200 relay (Alvaro Frangi, Tovin Simpson, Braden Hart, Oliver Jarvis – 1:56)

Riverside Pirates

The Riverside Pirates saw multiple athletes contribute scoring performances along with several personal records.

Kenna Johnson highlighted the night with a third-place finish in the girls long jump, setting a personal record at 14 feet, 5½ inches. She also ran on the seventh-place 4×100 relay team with Lily Zwiebel, Maddie Schindewolf, and Addison Shoe (57.86).

On the boys side, Gabe Steineman placed fourth in the high jump, clearing 5 feet, 6 inches.

Riverside athletes also recorded several personal-best performances:

  • Aiden Fout – 800 meters (2:22.68)
  • Tristin Orsborne – long jump (16-5¼)
  • Lily Zwiebel – shot put (20-1)
  • Cruz Parker – shot put (35-11½)
  • Joel Brooks – shot put (34-6½)

With a combination of scoring finishes and personal records, the Pirates continued to show steady improvement across both track and field events.
