Area teams were busy on the hardwood Wednesday night, with several local squads in action across varsity, junior varsity, and middle school levels. From road challenges and conference matchups to tightly contested youth games, here’s a look at the latest results from around the area.
Benjamin Logan Boys Fall at Jonathan Alder
The Benjamin Logan Raiders boys basketball team made the trip to Jonathan Alder on Wednesday night but came up short, falling 70–34.
Maddox Vermillion led the Raiders with eight points, five rebounds and an assist. Cayden Brown added six points and two assists, while Carter Fay and Roman Maxwell each scored six. Maxwell also recorded a block. Christian Rogan finished with four points, two rebounds and a steal, and Adam Tinsman chipped in two points and four rebounds.
In junior varsity action, Benjamin Logan dropped a 45–31 decision. Owen Stratton led the scoring with eight points, while Micah Gregg, Adam Tinsman and Caden Powell each added six.
The JVB Raiders also fell on the road, losing 46–32. Micah Gregg scored eight points and Gabe Predmore finished with six.
West Liberty-Salem Rolls Past Triad
West Liberty-Salem controlled the game from start to finish Wednesday night, earning a 74–3 home win over Triad. The Tigers improved to 14–2 overall and 12–2 in conference play.
Ava Astorino led the balanced WL-S attack with 24 points, while Ava Poppe added 17. Arianna Weaver scored eight points and Lucy Cole chipped in seven as the Tigers cruised to the victory.
For Triad, Emma Bialecki scored two points and April Hillman pulled down four rebounds. Triad remains winless on the season at 0–14 overall and 0–19 in conference play.
In junior varsity action, West Liberty-Salem also picked up a win, defeating North Union 42–24. Ella Jacobs led the Tigers with 11 points.
Mechanicsburg Earns Win Over Hilliard Davidson
Mechanicsburg picked up a solid 50–40 win over Hilliard Davidson on Wednesday night, leading wire-to-wire.
The Indians took a 12–7 advantage after the first quarter and steadily built on the lead, outscoring Davidson 14–11 in the third quarter to create separation.
Clair Rodgers led all scorers with 14 points, while Clara Forrest added 11 in the victory.
Bellefontaine 7th Grade Lady Chiefs Come Up Short
The Bellefontaine 7th grade Lady Chiefs dropped a hard-fought contest to Jonathan Alder, falling 29–19 on Wednesday night. Despite the loss, Bellefontaine remains strong at 11–3 on the season.
Braelynn Neer paced the Lady Chiefs with eight points, while Alivia Rogan added five. Charley Frazier and Leah Harvey each finished with two points.
Bellefontaine will be back in action Thursday night at home against Benjamin Logan.
8th Grade Lady Chiefs Battle to the Final Seconds
The Bellefontaine 8th-grade Lady Chiefs were edged out 29–24 by Jonathan Alder in a physical, defensive battle that wasn’t decided until the closing moments.
Bellefontaine jumped out to a 7–2 lead after the first quarter before Jonathan Alder narrowly moved ahead 9–8 at halftime. The Chiefs trailed 21–17 entering the fourth quarter and cut the deficit to three points with 1:20 remaining. Jonathan Alder sealed the win at the free-throw line, attempting nine shots in the final quarter compared to Bellefontaine’s two.
Strong defensive efforts from Brookelyn Oaks and Alexis Hogan helped keep the game within reach throughout.
Annie Gallaway led the Lady Chiefs with eight points, while Kennedy Hairston and Alexis Hogan each scored six. Gianna Davis and Brookelyn Oaks added two points apiece.
The Lady Chiefs return to action Thursday night against the Benjamin Logan Raiders.
