Bellefontaine’s Gracie Hood has spent years establishing herself as one of the top high school bowlers in Ohio. This spring, the Bellefontaine High School graduate capped a remarkable career by winning the 2026 OHSAA Division I Individual State Championship, rolling games of 208, 248, and 223 for a championship series of 679 to earn the biggest title of her career.
That performance was only the beginning.
Just months later, Hood traveled to Minneapolis to compete against the nation’s best youth bowlers at the 2026 Junior Gold Championships, one of the sport’s most prestigious events. Over 26 demanding qualifying and Advancer Round games on some of the toughest oil patterns in youth bowling, Hood delivered one of the tournament’s most consistent performances, finishing second overall with 5,225 pins and a 200.96 average.
Her finish secured the No. 2 seed for the championship bracket and, more importantly, earned one of the coveted spots on Team USA, giving the Bellefontaine native the opportunity to represent the United States on the international stage.
The accomplishment adds another milestone to an already decorated résumé. Hood was named the 2026 OHSAA Division I Bowler of the Year, a three-time First Team CBC selection, and leaves Bellefontaine holding numerous school records, including the highest game (289), two-game series (558), three-game series (712), and highest season average (220). She will continue both her academic and bowling career at Mount Mercy University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, where she plans to study nursing.
Now, Hood is reflecting on the journey that took her from the lanes at TP Lanes in Bellefontaine to wearing Team USA colors.
