WL-S falls in thriller to Emmanuel Christian Academy; more boys basketball scores

It was a busy weekend of boys basketball around the area, with conference action, road trips, and close finishes across varsity, JV, and middle school play. Here’s a look at how our local teams fared.

WEST LIBERTY-SALEM

VARSITY

West Liberty-Salem’s varsity boys were edged in a tight one Saturday, falling to Emmanuel Christian Academy 48–47.

Brandel Sullivan led all Tigers with 19 points. Brevin Louden added 11, as WL-S drops to 2–2 overall. The Tigers return home Tuesday to face Springfield Catholic Central.

JVA

The WL-S JVA team picked up a win in their matchup, defeating Emmanuel Christian Academy 40–35.

Colton Neeld led a balanced scoring effort with eight points, as the Tigers improved to 3–1 on the year. They’ll also be back home Tuesday against Springfield Catholic Central.

8TH GRADE – WIN VS FAIRBANKS

West Liberty-Salem’s 8th grade boys stayed unbeaten Saturday, edging Fairbanks 34–29.

Foster King led the Tigers with 13 points, while Kipton Crowder and Liam Harrington each scored nine. With the win, WL-S improves to 4–0 and will host Springfield Catholic Central Monday night.

7th GRADE – LOSS AT FAIRBANKS

In another middle school matchup, West Liberty-Salem fell on the road to Fairbanks by a final of 29–22.

Caizen Anders led the Tigers with 10 points and eight rebounds, while Greyson Leichty added seven points and five boards. WL-S now sits at 2–2 on the season.

RIVERSIDE

VARSITY

In varsity action, Riverside also came up short at Northridge, losing 83–36.

Hayden Sanford paced the Pirates with 12 points. Brody Orsborne finished with eight, and Syler Clark added seven.

JV

Riverside’s JV squad was on the road Friday night, falling to Northridge 52–15.

David Gross led the way for the Pirates with six points, while Gabe Steinman added three in the loss.

INDIAN LAKE

8TH GRADE

Indian Lake’s 8th grade boys earned a solid win Saturday, defeating Jackson Center 39–27.

Miller Hall led all scorers with 20 points, knocking down four three-pointers. Colt Volbrecht added 12 points, including two from long range, and Brady Jackson finished with seven. Indian Lake improves to 2–2 and will play at Ben Logan Monday night.

7TH GRADE

The 7th grade Laker boys fell at home Saturday morning to Jackson Center, 41–34.

Indian Lake trailed by as many as 11 points in the third quarter before cutting the deficit to three with just under three minutes remaining in the fourth. However, costly offensive rebounds by Jackson Center allowed the visitors to pull away late.

Logan Kuhlke led the Lakers with 13 points, followed closely by Ross Tidwell with 12. Kason Taylor scored four points, Calin Headings added three, and Ian Schwarz finished with two.
