WL-S girls surge past BLHS in non-conference clash; Monday night varsity girls’ basketball scoreboard

Area girls basketball teams were busy Monday night, with several local squads on the road and home courts across non-conference and league action. West Liberty-Salem continued its strong season with a decisive win over Benjamin Logan, while Riverside and Triad faced tough opponents as the schedule rolled on.

VARSITY GIRLS — West Liberty-Salem 62, Benjamin Logan 34

The Benjamin Logan Lady Raiders traveled to face the West Liberty-Salem Lady Tigers Monday night for a non-conference matchup and came away with a split at the JV and varsity levels.

West Liberty-Salem continued its strong varsity season with a convincing 62–34 win, improving to 9–1 overall. The Lady Tigers set the tone early, knocking down six three-pointers in the opening quarter and jumping out to a commanding 23–4 lead.

WL-S used balanced scoring and steady defensive pressure throughout the night. Ava Astorino led all scorers with 17 points, while Ava Poppe added 14 and Addi Wallen chipped in 13. Arianna Weaver finished with 9 points as the Tigers cruised to the victory.

Benjamin Logan (4–5) struggled to find offensive rhythm early but was paced by Jozie Taylor and Rylan Norviel with 7 points apiece, while Kylie Harner added 6 points. The Lady Raiders will look to bounce back Wednesday night when they take on Bellefontaine in a CBC crossover matchup.

JV GIRLS — Benjamin Logan 36, West Liberty-Salem 19

The Benjamin Logan JV Lady Raiders picked up an impressive road win, defeating West Liberty-Salem 36–19 behind a strong team defensive effort.

Madison Shields and Bonnie Brunson led the Raiders with 8 points and 3 steals each. Jozie Taylor added 6 points and 3 steals, while Aubrey Harris contributed 5 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 steals. Brielle Kline anchored the defense with 4 rebounds and 3 steals.

VARSITY GIRLS — Houston 52, Riverside 28

Riverside returned to action Monday night but was unable to keep pace with Houston, falling 52–28.

Houston built a 16–6 lead after one quarter and extended the advantage to 28–13 by halftime. The Wildcats continued to pull away in the second half, leading 40–22 after three quarters.

Maddie Lemly paced the Lady Pirates with 13 points, while Kenzie Stotler added 5.

VARSITY GIRLS — Elgin 58, Triad 19

Triad was unable to slow down Elgin on its home floor, falling 58–19.

Jazz Ford led the Cardinals with 7 points and 6 rebounds, while Taylor Queen added 5 points. Emma Martin and Gracie Martin each contributed 4 rebounds in the loss.

Triad now stands at 0–11 overall and 0–8 in Ohio Heritage Conference play.
