West Liberty-Salem 10, Northeastern 9 (8 innings)

A late rally lifted West Liberty-Salem to an extra-inning, walk-off 10-9 win over Northeastern in eight innings.

The Jets scored the game’s first three runs, getting one in the second on a two-out RBI double and two more in the third on a double to left and RBI single to center. WL-S pitching stranded the bases loaded in the fourth, then got on the board in the bottom half as Karless Lucas scored on a passed ball.

Northeastern answered with two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings, using an RBI double and single in the fifth plus a two-RBI single in the sixth to stretch the lead to 7-1.

The Tigers began their comeback in the sixth. Olivia Reichardt ripped a two-run triple to left, then Ashlyn Yeater followed with an RBI double to cut the deficit to 7-4.

The Jets added another run in the seventh on a two-out single, but West Liberty-Salem wasn’t done. After loading the bases on three singles, Lucas hit a sacrifice fly to make it 8-5. Reichardt then reached on an error that plated a run, and Yeater hit a ground ball that resulted in a throwing error, allowing two runs to score and tie the game at eight.

Northeastern briefly regained the lead in the eighth with a leadoff homer to center, but the Tigers answered again. Rhyla Branham and Emily King both singled before Kiersten Stoll tied the game with an RBI single. Lucas followed with the walk-off RBI single for the 10-9 win.

Lucas had the game-winning hit and tied Reichardt with two RBIs, while Stoll went 4-for-4. Branham and Yeater each added two hits.

West Liberty-Salem improves to 6-13 and will host Cedarville on Monday.

Greeneview 6, Mechanicsburg 3

Mechanicsburg couldn’t complete its comeback and fell 6-3 to Greeneview.

The Rams steadily built their lead, scoring in each of the first four innings. Greeneview plated one in the first on a single and double, another in the second on a two-out RBI single, then broke things open with three runs in the third on three straight RBI singles. An RBI groundout in the fourth made it 6-0.

The Lady Indians had early opportunities, putting runners on in the first, third, and fourth innings but failing to score.

Mechanicsburg finally broke through in the sixth. Avery McDowell and Bella Batkiewicz opened the inning with back-to-back triples, with McDowell scoring on a wild pitch in between. Chuckie Dale later reached on an error to score Batkiewicz, and Keelyn McGhee added a sacrifice fly to cut the lead to 6-3.

That was as close as Mechanicsburg got, stranding two runners in the seventh to end the game.

McDowell and Aubrie Retterer each had two hits for the Lady Indians. Dale recorded the lone RBI, while Bella and Basha Batkiewicz each had a hit.

Mechanicsburg falls to 3-12 and will host Madison Plains on Monday.

Northwestern 22, Riverside 1

Riverside struggled to slow Northwestern in a 22-1 loss to the Lady Warriors.

Northwestern piled up 13 hits and six walks while taking advantage of six Riverside errors. The Warriors scored four runs in the first, exploded for 10 more in the third, and added eight in the fourth, highlighted by a three-run homer.

Riverside’s lone run came in the fourth when Ellie Zwiebel delivered a two-out RBI single back to the pitcher to score Chloe Purtee.

Purtee added Riverside’s other hit, while Zoey Ransbottom drew two walks.

The Lady Pirates fall to 10-13 and will travel to Miami East to close the regular season.
