The quilt judging kicked off early on a hot Saturday morning with Lisa Schrek, a certified National Quilt Association Judge from Sidney, overseeing the show.
Over 95 quilted items were entered into the fair and judged by category.
Winners of Best of Show and Reserve Best of Show were as follows:
- Division 1 – Hand quilted
Best of Show – Teresa Morris with a ½ square triangle quilt in a variety of colors.
Reserve Best of Show – Jodie Kavanagh with a batik square in a square quilt.
- Division 2 – Hand-guided machine quilted
Best of Show – Deborah Shellhaus with a pieced and appliqued full-size quilt.
Reserve Best of Show – Diane Smith with a golf-themed quilt with complimentary grid quilting
- Division 3 – Computer-guided machine quilted
Best of Show – Deborah Shellhaus with a quilted and embroidered table mat
Reserve Best of Show – Diane Smith with an eye-catching, colorful quilt, with each block unique.
- Division 4 – All other quilted items
Best of Show – Diane Smith with a tree quilt featuring bias, striped binding.
Reserve Best of Show – Thelma Matthews with a full-size, scrappy log cabin quilt.
This year’s theme of Log Cabin blocks was featured in many classes and in many forms, from a Christmas ornament, a pillow, a table-topper, and a full-size quilt.

Needlework had another beautiful display featuring crochet, knitting, machine sewing, wool on wool, and cross-stitch.
The judge this year was Karen Harpster, a retired Family and Consumer Sciences teacher.
Results were as follows:
- Division 1/2 – Crochet/Knitting
Best of Show – Debbie Horney with a farm animal crochet blanket
Reserve Best of Show – Debbie Horney with a child’s sweater
- Division 3 – Needlework
Best of Show – Karen Tracey with a flowered embroidery project
Reserve Best of Show – Nancy Losey with a wool-on-wool flowered table topper
- Division 4 – Counted Cross Stitch
Best of Show – Marjorie Bixler with a chubby bunny cross-stitch picture
Reserve Best of Show – Marjorie Bixler with a county fair cross stitch mounted on a drum
- Division 5 – Machine Sewing
Best of Show – Deborah Shellhaus with a Christening outfit
Reserve Best of Show – Kristin Eberly with a wool pair of plaid pants.
All these beautiful quilts and needlework are on display in the Blue Building at the Logan County Fair all week.
