The Urbana Fire Division is recognizing Lieutenant Adam Nitchman for successfully completing advanced training through the National Fire Academy.

Lieutenant Nitchman recently completed the National Fire Academy–sponsored course Command and Control of Incident Operations, held January 4–9, 2026. The course focuses on developing effective incident command skills for managing emergency scenes, with a strong emphasis on leadership, decision-making, and risk management.

According to the Fire Division, the training also reinforces the application of the Incident Command System to complex, multi-unit incidents, helping ensure firefighter safety, accountability, and operational effectiveness during emergency responses.

The National Fire Academy, part of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), provides professional development education to fire and emergency services personnel nationwide.

Urbana Fire Division officials say Lieutenant Nitchman’s commitment to continued professional development strengthens the department’s ability to serve and protect the community.
