Three injured in Champaign County crash

Two drivers and a teenage passenger were taken to Mercy Health–Urbana Hospital with suspected minor injuries following a two-vehicle crash Saturday evening in Champaign County.

According to the Champaign County Sheriff’s Office, the crash occurred around 8:14 p.m. Oct. 3 at the intersection of State Route 245 and East U.S. 36.

A 2018 Hyundai driven by 49-year-old Karla Peitsmeyer of Columbus was traveling south on State Route 245 when she failed to yield to a 2027 Honda traveling eastbound on East U.S. 36.

Peitsmeyer was taken to Mercy Health–Urbana Hospital by Mechanicsburg EMS with suspected minor injuries. She was cited for failure to yield.

The Honda was driven by 48-year-old Heath Rausch of Mechanicsburg, who was also taken to the hospital by Urbana EMS with suspected minor injuries. His 15-year-old passenger, Blake Rausch, was also transported by Urbana EMS with suspected minor injuries.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene by Wooten’s Towing.
