The 48th Annual Rotary Honors Night took place at Bellefontaine High School on Monday evening, celebrating the academic excellence of high school seniors with a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 and above.
Jessica Simmons, President, of the Bellefontaine Rotary Club, talks about the night:
Brian Hogan, a distinguished 1999 BHS graduate and the current Superintendent at Ridgemont Local Schools, served as the guest speaker for the event. Hogan delivered insightful words of wisdom to both students and parents in attendance. He emphasized the unpredictable nature of life’s journey, comparing it to a box of chocolates where one never knows what to expect. Encouraging perseverance, he advised, “Fight through and keep moving forward in a positive direction,” while urging the audience to appreciate the journey and the people encountered along the way.
“Appreciate and learn from every opportunity you have, and invest in yourself,” Hogan emphasized. He suggested considering a return to the home community to share talents and time, becoming a positive influence. Closing with a quote from Franklin D. Roosevelt, Hogan reminded everyone, ‘We cannot always build a future for our youth, but we can always build our youth for the future.’

A highlight of the evening was the awarding of a record number of ten scholarships, each valued at $1,000, to deserving local seniors. The Bellefontaine Rotary Club’s successful fundraising efforts made this generous contribution possible. A total of 108 scholarship applications were received and thoroughly reviewed, considering factors such as need, merit, community service, and extracurricular activities.
