Logan County Commissioner Joe Antram is stepping back onto the conductor’s podium, rekindling a lifelong passion that has touched generations of local musicians.

Known for wearing many hats — commissioner, retired band director, farmer, father, and husband — Antram is now returning to one of his first loves: music education.

Next week marks the first rehearsal of the 2025 season for the West Central Ohio Community Concert Band, and it will be led by Antram, one of the band’s founding members.

Rehearsal will be held at Bellefontaine High School in the band room from 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM, and all interested community members are invited to attend.

“It is invaluable to me,” Antram said of his return to directing. “It’s the interaction with other musicians. It’s invigorating to have so much in common with other residents and reconnect. Music is a lifelong skill, like riding a bike.”

Antram taught band for over three decades, first at West Liberty-Salem Schools from 1977 to 1983, and then at Bellefontaine City Schools from 1984 until his retirement in 2013.

Throughout his career, he inspired countless students with his energy, dedication, and passion for the arts.

The West Central Ohio Community Concert Band brings together musicians of all ages and backgrounds — from talented high school students to accomplished senior citizens.

Antram talks about the band and more details:

The ensemble traditionally includes around 50 members and is a beloved musical institution in the region.

This year’s program will be titled “British Invasion,” featuring a wide array of music from across the pond.

The 2026 season will shift gears to a patriotic theme, continuing the group’s tradition of varied and inspiring performances.

Whether you’re a returning member or someone just curious to play again, Antram extends a heartfelt invitation: “Come join us next week. We’d love to see you there.”
