A 23-year-old Bellefontaine man was arrested twice within hours on New Year’s Day after two separate incidents.

According to police reports, just after 1:15 a.m. on Thursday, January 1, 2026, an officer on patrol saw a man lying on the ground on East Chillicothe Avenue near South Main Street.

The individual was struggling to get up and later began stumbling along the roadway.

The officer spoke with the man, later identified as Ryann Maples, 23, and noticed several signs of heavy intoxication.

A passerby offered to provide Maples a ride home, but officers declined due to Maples’ aggressive behavior and impaired condition.

Maples was arrested for public intoxication and transported to the Logan County Jail.

There, he was released to a sober individual and issued a summons for disorderly conduct.

Just over two hours later, at approximately 3:48 a.m., officers were called to a home on Center Avenue for a domestic dispute.

Upon arrival, officers heard yelling inside the home and saw a man restraining Maples on the floor.

Witnesses reported that Maples, who was still intoxicated, had become physically aggressive during an argument.

Police say Maples assaulted the victim, striking them multiple times and throwing them to the ground.

Other witnesses reported intervening, which led to additional physical confrontations.

Maples was taken into custody and briefly resisted handcuffing before complying.

He was lodged in the Logan County Jail on charges of domestic violence and persistent disorderly conduct.
