Urbana High School has announced its Seniors of the Month, Louie Astacaan and Noraa Smith.
Louie Astacaan
School activities & awards: Louie has been involved in Tennis, DECA and Bowling during his time at Urbana High School.
If I were principal for a day: I would give students two days off with no homework or projects — but they would have to make it up with two extra days added to the school year.
Favorite school memory: When there was a fight in the cafeteria and Mr. Schelle jumped in. It was funny but cool.
People who have been an inspiration to me include: My mom.
Lately, I have been reading: Flipped by Wendelin Van Draanen.
My advice to parents: Don’t give up on your kid, because they can change your life in different ways. Support them, love them and guide them toward a good life.
My biggest regret: Taking people for granted. I should have appreciated the people in my life more.
Next year I will be: Serving in the Navy or the Air Force.
Noraa Smith
School activities & awards: Noraa is a member of the soccer team (2x CBC champions and CBC October Athlete of the Month), DECA (state finalist), Marching Band, National Honor Society, PBIS and Musical. She is also a four-year Honor Roll student and has earned department awards in science, social studies and math.
If I were principal for a day: I would give high school students nap time — we might need it more than kindergarteners.
Favorite school memory: Coming up with a dance for a history presentation during my freshman year.
People who have been an inspiration to me include: My parents for pushing me and encouraging me to be the best version of myself.
Lately, I have been reading: Maximum Ride by James Patterson.
My advice to parents: Support your kids in everything they do, even if it just means listening without lecturing or giving advice.
My biggest regret: Pushing through my back injury instead of stopping when it got bad, which led to being sidelined for eight months of recovery.
Next year I will be: Attending The Ohio State University to study at the Fisher College of Business.
