West Liberty-Salem High School has named its February Seniors of the Month.

Congratulations to Ava Astorino & Brevin Louden.

Ava Astorino is the daughter of Josh and Christy Astorino.

School Activities and Awards: NHS, Livestock Judging, FFA, Calculus Club, Basketball, Leadership Council, Highest Honor Roll

If I were principal for a day: I would allow phones.

Favorite school memory: Sophomore Basketball Season

People who have been an inspiration to me include: My dad

Because: He works hard in all he does to take care of everyone around him.

Lately, I have been reading: Hamlet

My advice to parents: Raise kind kids.

My biggest regret: Not trying more sports or clubs.

Next year I will be: Attending Miami University, pursuing my BSN.

Brevin Louden is the son of Mike and Melissa Louden.

School Activities and Awards: Student helper, key club, entrepreneurship club, Spanish club, class officer (sophomore class president, junior class officer), wellness committee, link crew, jungle council, student council, national honor society, cross country (two time academic all Ohioan, three time all conference), track (one time academic all Ohioan, three time all conference), basketball (two time all conference, one time all district)

If I were principal for a day: If I were principal for a day, I would reach out to as many different adults with diverse job experiences and invite them to come present during the school day. Every student would have the ability to pick which adult’s career they would want to learn about. I would also host a spike ball tournament during the homeroom times.

Favorite school memory: My favorite school memory is advanced algebra two with Mr. Cotrell and the “mathletes” sophomore year

People who have been an inspiration to me include:  My father, Ken Chaffin, and my Nana

Because:  All three of these people have been influential in shaping me into who I am today. Both through sports and everyday life growing up. Without these three, I would not be able to appreciate all that I have been blessed with in my life and would struggle to have confidence in myself and my abilities. I am grateful to have had such positive role models to look up to and admire throughout my life.

Lately, I have been reading: The Athletes Guide to Sports Supplements

My advice to parents: Do not try to live vicariously through your children. Allow them to make their own decisions and follow their own path. Nothing amazing has ever happened (probably) as a result of parents forcing their children to live a life in which they have little control. Your children are more likely to succeed later on if they have the ability to test the water in areas that interest them.

My biggest regret: My biggest regret over my four years in high school has been not expressing my gratitude enough to everyone who has shaped me and helped me along the way.

Next year I will be: Next year I will be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in finance and eventually my MBA, while also continuing my athletic endeavors in basketball and/or track and field at an undecided college or university.
