Early Sunday morning, Marissa Ball, 27, of Bellefontaine, was arrested after a traffic stop that led to multiple charges, including operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs (OVI) and resisting arrest.
According to reports from the Bellefontaine Police Department, officers saw Ball make an improper turn while driving a white Honda on West Auburn Avenue and then follow too closely to the vehicle in front of her.
During the traffic stop, Ball exited her vehicle and initially refused to comply with officers’ commands, including providing her identification and setting down her personal belongings.
Police reported Ball showed several signs of impairment and that they could smell alcoholic beverages on her breath.
She admitted to consuming alcohol earlier in the day; however, she refused to perform field sobriety tests and declined breath testing.
During the encounter, Ball reportedly resisted arrest, pulling away from officers while being handcuffed.
Officers ultimately secured her and transported her to the Bellefontaine Police Department, then to Mary Rutan Hospital for an evaluation.
Ball was cited for:
- OVI
- OVI refusal with prior conviction
- Improper turn
- Following too closely
- Resisting arrest
Due to her refusal to submit to breath testing and a prior OVI conviction in 2022, Ball’s driver’s license was suspended for two years.
According to the report, she remains in the care of medical professionals at Mary Rutan Hospital.
No further information has been released.
