Tuesday night marked the fourth week of the Behind the Badge Logan County Sheriff’s Academy, where participants received valuable training on emergency preparedness and gun safety.

During the session, attendees learned about the ALICE protocol—an acronym for Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, and Evacuate—designed to enhance response strategies in active shooter situations. This comprehensive training aims to equip individuals with the skills necessary to respond effectively in emergencies.

Deputies Drew Dixon and Nick Burtchin led the instruction, guiding participants through the principles of ALICE and emphasizing the importance of situational awareness and preparedness. The deputies also covered essential gun safety practices, ensuring that attendees understood the responsibilities that come with firearm ownership.

Dougie Boggs, a Certified Peer Recovery Supporter from Recovery Zone, spoke to participants, sharing his powerful story of overcoming drug addiction and the pivotal role of faith in his recovery journey. Boggs candidly discussed his struggles with addiction, emphasizing the importance of resilience and hope. He encouraged the audience not to give up on individuals battling substance use disorders, reminding them that recovery is possible with the right support and resources. In his role at Recovery Zone, Boggs works closely with those affected by addiction, providing essential resources and guidance to help them navigate their path to recovery. His firsthand experience and compassionate approach resonate with many, making a significant impact on those seeking to overcome their challenges.
