Logan County Sheriff’s Deputies responded late Thursday night to a report of domestic violence that ended with a Belle Center man going to jail. Deputies responded to the caller who said she went to pick her husband up from their camper on State Route 235 in Lakeview. When she arrived, she realized he was intoxicated and he began jumping on her car, trying to break the windows.
When 44-year-old Michael Pikey calmed down enough to get into the car, he began telling the victim he wished she would die. The victim asked Pikey to leave the vehicle and when he refused, she took the keys and left the car behind. She called 9-1-1 from the nearby Recycling Center.
Pikey remained at the camper but told the victim if the police showed up, they would have to kill him. When deputies arrived at the camper, Pikey came out peacefully. Deputies later reported having confirmed Pikey’s intention of suicide by cop. Pikey turned himself over to deputies without incident, was arrested, and charged with domestic violence. He was lodged in the Logan County Jail.
