The Bellefontaine City Schools Board of Education held its monthly meeting Monday night in the High School Distance Learning Center.
Executive Director of Instructional Services Shanel Henry presented the district’s state report card to the board, outlining strengths and areas in need of improvement.
BCS earned an overall score of 3.5 out of 5.
Gap closing and the graduation rate were two highlights.
The district earned a 4 in each category, which exceeds state standards.
Gap closing measures a student’s own growth from one year to the next.
The weighted graduation rate was 95.9 percent.
The district also performed well in early literacy and college and career readiness.

The board approved several student trips, including four out-of-state trips for BHS Robotics this school year.
The trips include competitions at Riverbots in Monroe, Michigan on December 13th-14th, Sugar Rush in Hershey, Pennsylvania on January 3rd-4th, Gateway in Triadelphia, West Virginia on February 2nd-3rd, and the Worlds in Dallas, Texas in early May.
The board also approved the annual 8th-grade trip to Washington, DC. About 100 students along with chaperones will visit the nation’s capital in May.
The board approved the monthly financial reports.
Salary adjustments were approved for the following teachers:
- Brooke Bahr BA to BA+9
- Jennifer Brown BA+18 to MA
- DJ Howell MA+30 to MA+45
- Ciara Irick BA+18 to MA
- Rachael Stacklin BA to BA+18
Several personnel items were approved by the board.
- Alex Burton was hired as an intervention specialist.
- Ava Klingler was hired as a substitute teacher.
- Megan Cira (elementary), Jennifer Cyr (intermediate), and Jordan Reser (middle school) were hired as intervention assistance coordinators at their respective buildings.
- Nate Arbogast, Hailee Price, Mary Smith, and Lori Wilson were approved as home instruction tutors.
- The board accepted the resignation of Bellefontaine Intermediate School Nurse Jessica Dipple. Dreema Snyder was hired to succeed Dipple.
- Stephen Buckingham and Lyric Lawrence were hired as educational aides.
- Brittany Case (food service worker) and Barb Hunt (educational aide) were hired as substitutes.

- Krista Belser – Middle School Yearbook Advisor
- Brad Brown – Middle School Girls Basketball Assistant Coach
- Sandi Chervenak – Middle School MUN Advisor

- Sean Egler – High School Boys Basketball Assistant Coach
- Brady Hiatt – High School Girls Wrestling Head Coach
- Drew Jackson – High School Boys Basketball Assistant Coach
- Josh Jones – High School Boys Basketball Assistant Coach
- Jane Kline – High School Bowling Coach
- Aaron LaBatt – High School Boys Wrestling Head Coach
- Caleb Mitchell – 8th Grade Boys Basketball Head Coach
- Mike Mosbarger – Middle School Boys Basketball Assistant Coach
- Mikael Neeley – Middle School Girls Wrestling Head Coach
- Tammy Overholser – High School Bowling Coach
- Debbie Sheehan – High School Swimming Assistant Coach

The board also approved four volunteer coaches:

- Jeremy Ryan – High School Bowling
- Randy Varner – High School Girls Basketball
- Eva Skaggs was hired as an athletic worker.
The board recognized the September and October Seniors of the Month with an achievement pin and a $15 gift card to Ron’s Pizza.
- September – Ava Campbell and Tavien St. Clair
- October – Nolan Core and Alexis Yoder

Finally, the board went into executive session to discuss the employment of personnel. No action was taken.
The next monthly board meeting will be November 11th at 6:30 p.m. in the Distance Learning Center at BHS.
The board will meet in a special session to discuss district goals on Tuesday, November 12th at 1 p.m. at the board office.
