During Tuesday evening’s Bellefontaine City Council meeting, Service Safety Director Wes Dodds provided an update on the recent flooding caused by nearly 5 inches of rain.
Dodds explained that clogged drains in the city’s retention ponds and debris-filled catch basins contributed to the overflow, leading to widespread flooding.
Dodds emphasized the importance of residents doing their part by clearing debris from catch basins near their homes to help alleviate future issues.
The city is also working on addressing other rainwater runoff concerns and making improvements to prevent similar flooding in the future.
Additionally, a few city residents voiced their opinions on the current marijuana dispensary ban.
Some expressed support for lifting the ban, while others opposed any changes, citing concerns over the potential impact on the community.

Ordinances for 1st reading:
- 25-15 a. An ordinance authorizing the service-safety director to seek proposals and/or advertise for bids and enter into contract for the Harding Street Waterline improvements, project 2024-04w, and declaring an emergency. (Passed on first reading only by a 100% vote)
- 25-16 b. An ordinance authorizing the Service-Safety Director to seek proposals and/or advertise for bids and enter into contract for the Malone Avenue Waterline improvements, project 2024-03w and declaring an emergency. (Passed on first reading only by a 100% vote)
- 25-17 c. An ordinance authorizing the Service-Safety Director to advertise for bids and enter into contract for the 2025 street painting & striping project No. 2025-2r and declaring an emergency in the City of Bellefontaine, Ohio. (Passed on first reading only by a 100% vote)
- 25-18 d. An ordinance authorizing the Service-Safety Director to seek proposals and/or advertise for bids and enter into contract with the selected contractor and/or bidders for the Columbus Avenue and Powell Avenue Storm improvement project no. 2025-2st and declaring an emergency. (Passed on first reading only by a 100% vote)
- 25-19 e. An ordinance authorizing the Service-Safety Director to seek proposals and/or advertise for bids and enter into contract with the selected contractor and/or bidders for the 2025 citywide street resurfacing project No. 2025-01r and declaring an emergency. (Passed on first reading only by a 100% vote)
- R25-20 f. A resolution authorizing the Service-Safety Director to enter into a lease With Motorola Solutions Inc. Regarding police radios. (Adopted by a 100% vote)
- 25-21 g. An ordinance making supplemental appropriations and amending the Permanent appropriations ordinance for purposes of Municipal Court, Police, ESID and parks and declaring an emergency. (Passed on first and final reading by a 100% vote. Adopted)
- R25-22 h. A resolution authorizing the chief of police to enter into a memorandum Of understanding with the Logan County Sheriff’s Office regarding participation in the service of designated warrants and investigations leading to the apprehension of fugitives in the community. (Passed on first reading only by a 100% vote)
Ordinances for 2nd reading:
- 25-14 a. An ordinance vacating that certain east-west public alley between lot 1584 On the north and lot 1585 on the south in the City of Bellefontaine, Lake
Township, Logan County, Ohio. (Passed on second reading by a 100% vote)
