The Bellefontaine City Schools Board of Education met in regular session Monday night.

After they honored Phil Forsythe for his 50 years of teaching (see separate story), the board approved the five-year forecast presented by BCS Treasurer Josh Wasson.

Wasson said the district is facing deficit spending, which he reviewed with the board.

A similar five-year forecast was shared at the November ’22 board meeting.

The deficit amount was not available at the time of publishing this story.  PeakofOhio.com has inquired about the report.

In November, Wasson projected the trend to continue through fiscal year 2027.

Salaries and benefits remain the biggest expenditures for the district accounting for 82 percent of the district’s expenses.

BCS is expected to maintain a positive cash balance through the fiscal year 2026.

School leaders will continue to closely monitor each expenditure.

The board approved the 2024 trip to Washington, DC, and Gettysburg, Pennsylvania.

The eighth-graders will experience history and government while having fun and seeing new sites.

The trip will cost about $900 per student.

Fundraisers will help offset the families’ cost of the trip.

In personnel, the board accepted the resignation of 8th-grade math teacher Marice Furlong.

Two-year administrative contracts were approved for district nurse Katie Buffkin and school psychologist Lucas Pozenel.
