The Bellefontaine City Council met in regular session with a light agenda.

In his report, Mayor David Crissman asked the council to approve Doug Elton for the open seat on the Board of Zoning Appeals. Elton was unanimously approved.

Service Safety Director Wes Dodds expressed his thanks to the city crews who worked hard to clear the snow after the recent snowfall. He said his office has been receiving calls about when the city alleys will be plowed. He said that as soon as the smaller trucks are released from clearing the mounds of snow along Main Street, they will turn their attention to the alleyways.

He also informed the council that his office conducted interviews for the open Superintendent position for the Bellefontaine Joint Recreation District after the sudden passing of former Superintendent Kris Myers. He said that longtime resident Rick Reed has been offered and has accepted the position. He will assume his new responsibilities on February 2.

President of the Logan County Chamber of Commerce Ben Vollrath reminded the council that Mary Rutan Hospital will open a new clinic in the former Rite Aid building in Russells Point on Friday. He invited council members to attend the ribbon-cutting.

He also informed the council that he was recently named President of the Mid-Ohio Development Exchange. The organization consists of the 11 Columbus-area Economic Developers, and he is looking forward to the connections he will make in his new role:

One ordinance was given its first of three required readings. Ordinance 26-02 would authorize the Service Safety Director to seek bids to improve the runway and taxiway lighting at the Bellefontaine Regional Airport. Councilman Kyle Springs, Chair of the Finance Committee, said the project’s cost is expected to be $2.9 million, with 95% of that cost paid by the Federal Aviation Administration.

One ordinance was given its second reading. Ordinance 26-01 would make supplemental appropriations and amend the permanent appropriations ordinance for the South TIF, Wastewater, and Refuse. A motion to waive the three-reading rule was approved. Councilman Springs made a motion to pass the ordinance on the second and final reading. It, too, was approved. The ordinance was adopted.

The next meeting of the Bellefontaine Council will be on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, at 7:30 PM in council chambers.
