The beginning of a new legacy started Tuesday night with the induction of the first-ever National Junior Honor Society members in Bellefontaine City Schools history.
The charter was granted to Bellefontaine Middle School last summer, and students have been working all year to earn membership.
Built on the five foundational pillars of Scholarship, Character, Leadership, Service, and Citizenship, NJHS recognizes students who exemplify excellence both inside and outside the classroom.
Mrs. Fissel, club advisor, shared that she and the faculty council were drawn to the mission of the organization.
“Its purpose is simple but powerful — to recognize and develop well-rounded students during the critical middle school years. Specifically focusing on grades 6–9, when students begin forming academic habits, character, and leadership skills that shape their futures.”
Special guest speaker Natalie Snapp, a senior at Bellefontaine High School and active member of the high school National Honor Society, delivered a message to the newest members, sharing how the pillars of NHS have shaped her high school journey and will continue to guide her beyond BHS.
Fifteen students were inducted into the inaugural class:
- Griffin Burkhardt
- Zane Chiles
- Jack Fissel
- Garrett Gossard
- Owen Smith
- Matthew Torsell
- Camden Vollrath
- Rowen Daring
- Colson Garver
- Alexis Hogan
- Ellie Irick
- Alivia Owens
- Sophia Pulfer
- Fenix Walker
- Eva Wilson
School officials say the group represents the beginning of what they hope will become a lasting legacy of scholarship, leadership, and service at Bellefontaine City Schools.
