A Bellefontaine man was arrested on a felony drug charge Monday night after he called the police to report there were people in his residence that wanted to kill him.
Bellefontaine Police responded to Vernon Jackson’s residence in the 400 block of Kristina Drive.
Jackson, 33, appeared very confused, unsteady, and concerned. He advised officers that there was someone else in the apartment in addition to his roommate’s three children. Jackson stated multiple times that he kept hearing someone that were not the kids.
Officers observed signs of impairment.
Authorities asked to search him and Jackson paused for a short period of time. He then advised officers he had a machete on him.
The machete was recovered and nothing else illegal was found on Jackson.
He admitted to authorities that he used methamphetamine earlier in the day. When asked how much meth he had left, Jackson indicated he did not have any more.
Officers determined Jackson was not mentally stable enough to be responsible for three young children. A family friend was contacted to take care of them.
Jackson was placed under arrest. He then admitted there were drugs outside his neighbor’s front porch.
Authorities located a suspected bag of meth, exactly as Jackson stated.
Jackson was lodged in the Logan County Jail for felony possession of methamphetamine and endangering children.
Police tested the suspected meth and it came back with a positive result.
