Bellefontaine Police were dispatched to the corner of North Main Street and East Columbus Avenue Monday night for a report of a suspicious person.
Logan County Sheriff’s Deputy Office advised that a male, later identified as James Mundy was bent over at the waist telling him that he needed help.
The deputy went on to say that Mundy was bent over in this position for approximately 15 minutes.
As police addressed Mundy to find out what was going on, he replied by stating “Please don’t shoot me.”
Mundy was having trouble with police earlier in the day when he was reported as not making sense while talking with police and was making erratic comments.
He was advised at that time that if police were to deal with him again, he would need to go to the Hospital for a mental evaluation.
As officers worked with Mundy, he became upset and started to close his eyes.
Mundy consented to a pat-down to ensure the safety of officers and himself.
Two baggies of what later tested positive to be cocaine were in Mundy’s pockets.
He maintained a distant stare as police were working with him, leading them to determine he needed a mental health and physical evaluation at the hospital.
Mundy was seen by medical staff at Mary Rutan Hospital and later released without incident.
Once he was released from the hospital, he was arrested for possession of crack cocaine and transported to the Logan County Jail.
The cocaine had a combined weight of 46.73 Grams.
