On Tuesday evening around 10:20, officers from the Bellefontaine Police Department were dispatched to the Penny Lane apartments in reference to a domestic dispute.

The caller was unsure of the exact residence but stated the female involved left in her car and that he heard the female screaming that the male was choking her.

The female involved had called for help and saw a cruiser on Guntown Road and was driving toward it to speak with the officer. While waiting for the female, a black Chevrolet Suburban drove past in the direction of Penny Lane apartments at a high rate of speed.

A traffic stop was initiated, and dispatch informed that the male was Robert Stone, 27, residing at the 300 block of Penny Lane, and that his driving privileges were suspended.

As officers met with Stone, he was surprised why he was stopped.

Authorities observed Stone to have fresh injuries on his knuckles and fresh blood coming from the injuries, along with dried blood on his hand.

They smelled the odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from Stone’s breath and many signs of impairment. Stone said that he had “a few beers and like 1 or 2 shots” when asked how much he had to drink.

When asked why Stone had blood on his hand, he said he had hit a door because the victim upset him.

Stone stated that there had been relationship issues for several months and that the female had been cheating on him. He said that there was no arguing and nothing got physical.

Dispatch advised that Stone had retrieved his pistol and held it to his head during the argument with the female.

The female had blood on her clothing from where Stone had grabbed her and she had redness on her neck and throat. The victim stated that when she attempted to leave, Stone wrapped his arms around her neck and choked her. She said that she was not threatened by the gun at all.

Stone then retrieved the gun and held it against his head.

Stone was placed under arrest. He resisted being handcuffed and refused to sit down in the cruiser.

He was transported to the Logan County Jail.

Stone continued to be hostile and violent. He was placed in the restraint chair at the jail.

Stone was charged with felonious assault, abduction, strangulation, disrupting public service, resisting arrest, OVI, OVI – refusal, and operation under OVI suspension.
