A Bellefontaine man was arrested Tuesday morning for felony domestic violence.
Bellefontaine Police were dispatched to the 400 block of North Main Street.
Upon arrival, officers spoke with the victim who stated that her significant other, Ryan Marvel, 43, punched her in the face. She stated that Marvel left the house after the incident.
The victim reported that she and Marvel have been in a relationship for several years and have a child together. The female then said that it was possible he was hiding at, or around, the residence.
Authorities proceeded into the basement and found Marvel crouched in the very back corner of the basement.
Marvel was handcuffed and taken outside.
He said an altercation ensued after the victim woke him up on the couch. Marvel tried to tell her he was not done sleeping. He denied punching the woman and said he was hiding in the basement because he was scared.
A four-year-old, who was in the residence at the time of the assault, told officers he witnessed Marvel push the victim on the floor and grab her by the throat, and punched her.
Marvel was charged with felony domestic violence. He has two prior domestic violence convictions, making this charge a felony.
