The Logan County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched to the area of 1823 County Road 130 in reference to a motor vehicle accident Tuesday morning around 5:05.

Upon arrival, authorities observed a GMC Terrain in the ditch on the west side of the roadway and a male standing outside the vehicle.

The man, identified as Mauricio Conejo Chaves, 22, stated that he crashed. He was uneasy on his feet and walked slowly to the patrol car to wait for the EMS.

While speaking with Conejo Chaves, deputies detected the strong odor of an alcoholic beverage coming from him. When asked, he said that he had consumed two alcoholic beverages prior to driving.

He agreed to perform field sobriety tests and failed.

Conejo Chaves was placed under arrest for OVI and transported to the Logan County Jail.

He advised the authorities that they had made an unlawful arrest and stated that his rights had not been read to him. When asked if reading his rights would make him feel better, he said yes. The rights were then read.

Conejo Chaves agreed to a breath test and his results yielded a BAC of .156, just under two times the legal limit.

He was charged with failure to control and two counts of OVI.

Conejo Chaves was then released to a sober driver.
