A Bellefontaine man was arrested for reckless driving after almost striking a person and then crashing into a yard, Tuesday afternoon, around 4.

Officers of the Bellefontaine Police Department were notified of a one motor vehicle accident on Beech Avenue at North Main Street. The driver of the vehicle was described as a male who fled the scene on foot southbound.

Detectives of the Logan County Sheriff’s Office quickly detained the male driver, identified as Jonathon Triplett, 32, in the parking lot of Mary Rutan Hospital.

Triplett did not have a valid driver’s license.

Upon arrival at the scene, a Honda Accord was found crashed in the yard of the 800 block of North Main Street, and the front driver-side tire was broken off, leaving the vehicle disabled. It appeared that the vehicle attempted to turn onto Beech Avenue from North Main at a high rate of speed and failed to maintain control of the vehicle.

A witness met with officers at the scene and reported that he witnessed the accident. He observed the vehicle run through the stop sign at Orchard Avenue and North Main Street, almost striking him. The Honda Accord then proceeded at a high rate of speed, passing a Chevy truck in a no-passing zone. Triplett attempted to turn onto Beech Avenue and crashed.

As a result of Triplett’s reckless driving, he was charged with reckless operation, failure to control, driving without a license, and stopping after an accident.

Triplett was placed under arrest and transported to the Logan County Jail where he was lodged on the charge of failing to stop after an accident without incident.
