A Bellefontaine man was arrested early Wednesday morning after leading police on a brief pursuit and being found in possession of suspected crack cocaine.
Just before 4:00 AM Wednesday, officers with the Bellefontaine Police Department were on patrol on West Sandusky Avenue when they saw a gray Chevy SUV weaving on the roadway.
As the vehicle approached the intersection of West Sandusky and Garfield Avenue, it failed to stop at the red light.
When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver did not stop and continued into a gravel alley in the 200 block of Pratt Street.
He then turned around and drove past law enforcement, through a grassy area, before exiting the vehicle and approaching a nearby home.
Officers ordered the driver, later identified as David Taggart, 36, of Bellefontaine, to stop.
He began yelling and walking toward the officers, who unholstered their weapons.
After several commands, Taggart complied and claimed he was trying to deliver medicine to his mother.
A records check showed Taggart’s driver’s license was suspended, and he then admitted that was why he didn’t stop for officers.
During a search of the vehicle, police found two large rocks of suspected crack cocaine in the driver’s side door, another smaller rock near the pipe, and a silver crack pipe.
The suspected drugs tested positive for crack cocaine.
Taggart was arrested and transported to the Logan County Jail on a charge of possession of crack cocaine.
