Saturday morning officers from the Bellefontaine Police Department were dispatched to a home on the 400 block of Colton Avenue in reference to an assault with a lead pipe.

Upon arrival, officers began speaking with the witness who said that Kelly Hines, 55, of Bellefontaine, began to beat the victim with a lead pipe for no apparent reason.

Officers found Hines to be sitting on the floor in the kitchen of the home.

The pipe that was used to strike the victim was lying in a chair near the doorway of the residence.

The victim, who uses an oxygen tank, was sitting in a reclining chair, with visible serious injuries.

They told officers that Hines had hit their head, both wrists, and eye during the incident.

Bellefontaine Medics arrived and transported the victim to Mary Rutan Hospital.

It was discovered that the victim suffered a severe brain injury, and multiple skull fractures and would later be transferred to a different hospital.

The witness went on to tell police that he had been asleep in the home when he heard a commotion and went to the living room where he saw Hines hit the victim multiple times with the pipe.

The witness grabbed the pipe from Hines and began to hit him with it.

He then told Hines to sit on the kitchen floor and not move.

Police placed Hines under arrest, and transported him to Mary Rutan Hospital to get his injuries checked where he told a doctor that he was trying to kill the victim.

After being treated, Hines was transported to the Logan County Jail where he was lodged on attempted murder, felonious assault, and domestic violence.
