Bellefontaine police are investigating the theft of a vehicle from the MIG Sales lot in Bellefontaine.

Initially, police on patrol in the area around 4 in the morning yesterday reported headlights from the vehicle were on in the lot on South Main Street.

As they investigated, they found the vehicle, a white, 2016 Dodge Charger, had a broken rear window.

When they lit the area up with their spotlight, they saw two suspects dressed in black fleeing the area. Police were not able to find the suspects.

Officers then reported the attempted theft to the owner of the property, Fred Greil, who said the car was already sold and the new owner was coming from Missouri to pick it up.

He said he would not allow the car to be taken for investigation into the crime and assigned his service manager to replace the broken window and prepare it for transfer to the new owners.

Around 7 o’clock, police received a call reporting the vehicle had since been stolen from the dealership.

The vehicle was seen by an off-duty sheriff’s deputy driving more than 100 MPH east on US 33 and passing vehicles on the median and off the shoulder of the road.

Police report they have no suspects in the theft and are on the lookout for the vehicle. It is identified as a 2016 White Dodge Charger, VIN #2C3CCBBB3DN736023, and has 96,255 miles on it.

There is no license plate attached but does have a green MIG Sales plate on the rear of the vehicle.
