Early Tuesday morning, Bellefontaine Police were dispatched to a home on Penny Lane about a vehicle that was broken into.
Upon arrival, officers met with the victim who stated he parked a vehicle on the street, and sometime overnight someone broke into it and tore apart the dash.
Police noticed the interior lights of the vehicle to be on, with all the doors closed.
The vehicle was parked facing westbound on Kent Dr, in an area with no street lights.
The victim opened the passenger door and officers observed the glove box of the vehicle open and empty.
They also saw the center console of the vehicle to be open and items thrown across the passenger seat.
While looking around the vehicle, the panel under the steering wheel was pulled down and wires were hanging near the ignition.
The victim stated the vehicle was locked and noticed paint chips on the driver-side door as if it were pried open.
The victim stated it was a work vehicle and he did not keep anything of value in it except a tire inflator which was still in the trunk of the vehicle.
The victim stated that he did not notice anything missing from the vehicle at this time.
He stated the vehicle had been parked there since around 3:00 PM on April 7.
He said he went to bed around midnight and was up around 5:30 AM Tuesday.
He did not observe anything wrong with the vehicle before going to sleep.
The victim does have a camera on their residence, however, it does not reach the street.
Later in the morning, police were dispatched to the 400 block of Kristina Drive for another vandalism complaint.
Upon arrival, they met with the victim and they explained that someone got into their vehicle overnight and damaged it.
The handle for windshield wiper controls was completely broken off.
The ignition was damaged as well and looked like someone was either trying to remove it or jam something into it.
