The Bellefontaine Police Department is seeking the public’s help in identifying a woman who used a counterfeit $100 bill at a local business on Saturday evening.

The incident happened around 8:30 PM when the suspect, described as a black female wearing a white jacket, gray sweatpants, a red hat, and carrying a black purse, used the fake bill to purchase clothing for $22.98.

The store manager reported the incident after multiple attempts to scan the bill through the store’s money scanner resulted in rejections.

Upon further inspection, it was determined that the bill was counterfeit, marked with distinctive dark yellow ink that indicated it was fake.

Surveillance footage from the store shows the suspect arriving in a dark-colored SUV.

Unfortunately, due to the poor quality of the video, investigators were unable to identify the make, model, or license plate of the vehicle.

The Bellefontaine Police Department is asking anyone who may recognize the woman or have information about the incident to come forward.

The investigation is ongoing, and the police are urging anyone with information to contact the Bellefontaine Police Department at (937) 599-1010 and ask for Officer Haynes.
