Bellefontaine City Schools will dismiss students two hours early Thursday, September 3, due to the excessive heat.

School officials say the early dismissal is being made with student safety in mind as temperatures are expected to reach dangerous levels.

After-school activities will follow modified Ohio High School Athletic Association guidelines due to the heat.

Those modifications can include additional water and rest breaks, reduced activity, adjustments to equipment, and changes to practice times based on weather conditions.

Coaches and activity leaders will monitor conditions and make adjustments as needed to help protect students and athletes from heat-related illness.

Parents are encouraged to make arrangements for students to be picked up or cared for following the early dismissal.
